Bet you didn't know this!

It's a little known fact that Dannon yogurt containers contain flecks of metal/aluminum mixed with the plastic, so that if you use them to freeze broth and then microwave it, the container will sizzle, melt and catch fire in your microwave.

Did you know that?

Well, I do -- now. I learned it today, by accident. It was quite exciting. ;-) Fortunately, it was just a wee fire, that was put out by the melting broth. Unfortunately, it spoiled a nice batch of homemade turkey broth. :-(

glad you're okay. i once by accident put a metal bin in the microwave at work, to dry it quicker...it arced and spat too and i had to tell the boss that i wrecked his microwave - he was laughing and we tested it and it was fine :D

but your story - thats a major reason i dont microwave any plastic container. Even the safe ones will throw off phito-estrogens into your food, and if you're like me, you dont need more estrogens. And bits of plastic too - just look at what the containers look like after a month of microwaving...cant be good for you.

Yep, it was quite an eye opener. I have gone through my cupboards and discarded all such plastic containers. Ick!
