Sharpe Alert

There's talk of a new Sharpe series, possibly to take place in India (yay!) -- click here and scroll down the page a bit for the link from TORN to the article!

You listen to them, Sean; if we can't have a Sharpe movie, let's have a new Sharpe series!

ok so now how do we write to ITV to impore them to act on this notion?

[identity profile] lin4gondor.livejournal.com 2004-07-16 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure, but they probably have a website somewhere, and there may be info that way. Any chance of there being anything at the official Sharpe site? It sounds like ITV is interested in resurrecting some of these old winners, and have to get Sean Bean interested.

I would sooooo love to see the India series of Sharpe novels done!

[identity profile] lin4gondor.livejournal.com 2004-07-16 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep! The author is Bernard Cornwell, and there are quite a few of them in the series. Click here for more info on the books:

The television series is based on the novels (sometimes rather loosely!). Click here for info on the TV series:

The first Sharpe book I ever read was Sharpe's Tiger, which introduces him as a private in the British Army in India. Two other books in the India series follow, and it goes from there. :-D

hopefully this new batch of people are more aggressive than Celtic Films was/is. I remember two years ago (were you in on this?) that Isilme and I put together a postcard campaigne and sent about 30 post cards to sean bean asking him to do another sharpe, once we heard that Celtic films were serious about another series. I found out later from Sharpe Appreciation society lady later, that they (celtic films) had bandied around that notion for years, but never actually acted on it as sean was always so busy doing other stuff.

Yes, I was in on that, from over in Pakistan. These guys are the actual makers of Sharpe in the first place or the folks that sponsored it and benefitted from its success, so let's hope they ARE more aggressive.

hmmm. well the guys that i contacted (i still have their email addies on my hard drive) were the executive producer and i think the director, so i wonder if its the same guys? what do you think?

i think i'll try to find out more about ITV this weekend. this could be interesting. And he IS the right age to do Sharpe's Devil....wonder if his green jacket still fits LOL, but apparently he still has the sword.

[identity profile] lin4gondor.livejournal.com 2004-07-16 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
This article actually mentions India, so he is definitely NOT the right age now to do Sharpe's Tiger, etc. -- but I don't care, LOL!

Let's see what we can find out. Sean is a busy bee working on one movie after the next, but he has said in the past he might do Sharpe again...

Bet the jacket doesn't fit. He's getting to be a nice hefty 40 something year old. ;-)
