News from the land of Cheese
Nov. 15th, 2005 08:24 pmMy internet connection is still sluggish, but a little more reliable than it has been, which is a blessing. I don't feel quite so out of touch when I can get online and see how folks are doing.
Here in the land of sharp cheddar, we are expecting snow tonight. :-D It's raining like all get out right now, but it is expected to turn to snow, with the possibility of a couple of inches. I don't mind, I like snow -- though I expect it will make moving interesting, if it lasts into next week.
We turned in our applications for an apartment today -- after a last minute scramble to try to produce all the required documents to prove we are real people with real money and real jobs and promise to pay our rent on time, scout's honor. It was a bit tricky, because of us being employed by a nonprofit organization -- we don't have the typical proofs of employment that these generic application forms expect. But we were able to provide something similar -- though we had to scrounge in our loaded van for the necessary documents -- and the apartment people were content. We aren't officially approved yet, but the landlady talked like we were, so hopefully that will all fall into place. If all goes well, we will move in next Tuesday.
So, we still have a week to live out of a suitcase, ho hum. But we should be sleeping under our own roof in time for Thanksgiving, even if I don't have anything unpacked by then!
We've been staying with Hubby's folks since our move; this coming weekend we'll be going to my folks for a few days. That will be even more crowded, but a nice change. We have plans to see lots of folk we know all at once by attending a community Thanksgiving service at church, so that will be fun. We'll be fetching our boy home then, too, which I am looking forward to -- I've been missing him, and talking on the phone just isn't quite the same as having him be there with us.
