linaewen: (Blessing Deep Peace by juno_icons)

The last couple of years at Easter time, I have posted something that I found particularly encouraging so that I would be able to look back and find it again when I am feeling less hopeful and not encouraged.  While I am usually pretty strong and pretty confident, even I get discouraged sometimes. It's nice to have reminders in place that there is something and someone stronger than myself, who cares about me.

Two years ago, I posted the lyrics to a contemporary hymn that is one of my favorites, and that never fails to speak to my heart.  For me, this song says it all as to why and how I can have a firm foundation of hope and confidence in the midst of struggles.

I'm going to share those lyrics again, but I'm also sharing a music file of the song, for those who might want to download it.  This rendition is by Margaret Becker, Maire Brennan and Joanne Hogg, from the album they did together called In Christ Alone.

In Christ Alone My Hope is Found

May all of you -- (((((my friends))))) -- have a restful and encouraging weekend in whatever you do and wherever you go; and if the warm spring sun doesn't shine where you are, may it at least feel like it is shining! ;-)

This is a wee devotional I read aloud during our Palm Sunday service last weekend; I also posted the link to it in my LJ a couple of years ago for Easter weekend.  I really find these thoughts very encouraging and moving, and I wanted to share it here written out so I can find again later, when I need the reminder!

You Are Loved

by Max Lucado

"Can anything make me stop loving you?" God asks.

"Watch me speak your language, sleep on your earth, and feel your hurts. Behold the maker of sight and sound as He sneezes, coughs, and blows His nose. You wonder if I understand how you feel? Look into the dancing eyes of the kid in Nazareth; that's God walking to school. Ponder the toddler at Mary's table; that's God spilling His milk.

"You wonder how long my love will last?

"Find your answer on a splintered cross, on a craggy hill. That's me you see up there, your maker, your God, nail-stabbed and bleeding. Covered in spit and sin-soaked. That's your sin I'm feeling. That's your death I'm dying. That's your resurrection I'm living. That's how much I love you."

"Can anything come between you and me?" asks the firstborn Son.

Hear the answer and stake your future on the triumphant words of Paul: "I am sure that neither death, nor life, not angels, not ruling spirits, nothing now, nothing in the future, no powers, nothing above us, nothing below us, nor anything else in the whole world will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (ROMANS 8:38-39 NCV).

Max Lucado quote is from his book In the Grip of Grace.

This time it is song lyrics that spoke to my heart.  I was going to wait to post these lyrics on Sunday, because it is a fitting song for Easter that you don't hear sung every time -- one of my favorites, for the music as well as the words. But I decided to post it today instead.  For me, this song says it all as to why and how I can have a firm foundation of hope and confidence in the midst of struggles.

In Christ Alone (My Hope is Found)
(Keith Getty/Stuart Townsend)

In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my Light, my strength, my song;
This Cornerstone, this solid ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease.
My Comforter, my all in all,
Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone, who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless Babe!
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save.
'Til on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied.
For every sin on Him was laid;
Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain;
Then, bursting forth in glorious day,
Up from the grave He rose again!
And He stands in victory,
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me!
For I am His and He is mine,
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the pow'r of Christ in me;
From life's first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No pow'r of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
'Til He returns or calls me home,
Here in the pow'r of Christ I'll Stand!

I was reading through some Easter type devotionals today, and I found this which I want to remember, because, while I am usually pretty strong and pretty confident, even I get discouraged sometimes. It's nice to be reminded that there is something and someone stronger than myself, who cares about me. I'm posting this here so I can find it again when I need it!
