I actually camped in a tent, not a nutshell, hehe! Sorry, bad joke.

Anyway, I'm back from 3 days of camping, and here is the gist of what we did and how it went:

-being alone with Hubby (nice!)
-perfect weather (part of the time)
-campsite with a great view from the bluff overlooking the Mississippi and Wisconsin Rivers
-hiking in the woods and by the river
-mosquitoes
-blisters and aching feet
-sweet corn roasted on the fire
-cicadas, creaking insects and wee frogs singing 24/7
-hearing owls in the night and a trumpeter swan in the morning
-almost a full moon the first night and beautiful glimpses of stars
-more hiking
-naps
-coffee tasting even better than usual 'cause it's made in an old tin pot
-writing and quiet time
-a brazen raccoon stealing a bag of chips when my back was turned
-hiking to the bathroom in the middle of the night
-rain, thunder and lightning, more rain (very loud when there's nothing between you and the storm but a bit of nylon tent)
-wet and muddy, but happy because my feet were warm
-a great view of the bluffs in the morning fog and rain that reminded us of Pakistan
-coffee tasting even better than usual when made and drunk in between rain storms
-more hiking once the sun came out again
-finding ripe blackberries on the trail, freshly washed by the rain
-home again, just in time to get back to airconditioning before the weather turned hot and humid

I say "home again" but we're not home in PA just yet. There are still a few days left to hang around the folks' place and relax a bit before we drive back to PA (all in one day), sometime next week.

Right now, I'm looking forward to a shower and sleeping in a bed that isn't damp and where the creaking insects are not right in my ear. ;-)

But I still had a great time!

wow...that all sounds amazing. The frogs, the storms, the ripe berries, alone time, owls, hikes.

Wow...Mark and I keep talking about wanting to go camping. But for us it would most likely just be at Rock Cut for one night and the coffee would probably be purchased from a local road ranger gas station. LOL!!

I'm very jealous, it sounds like you had a fabulous, and well deserved break.

Hello
