The Eid moon is that first sliver of the new moon showing in the night sky, which signals the end of the month of Ramadan and the beginning of the Eid festival that celebrates the completion of the days of fasting. That sliver of moon is greatly anticipated and eagerly watched for by all who have endured the month-long fast, but in the minds of those who are waiting, the Eid moon seems to take forever to appear.

There's a proverb in Urdu, which translated means, "you have become the Eid moon." The closest equivalent I can think of is "long time, no see." It is spoken to one who has been long awaited but is late in coming, particularly a close friend who has not visited for some time. The only response to having this proverb said to you is to bow humbly, ask forgiveness, and reassure your friend with promises of many future visits on a regular basis!

Well, I had a couple of people asking about me yesterday, and I realized I had become the Eid moon after a fashion. I haven't been posting much, and my commenting has been getting more and more sporadic. I don't have a reason for that really, except that I haven't been feeling totally on top of things, physically or mentally, so I've been letting things slide. Thank you all who looked for me and wondered.

In other news...

We had a bit of unexpected excitement yesterday, when the fire alarm went off in our apartment building. So loud, eeek!! It was interesting what went through my mind as I ran for my coat to go stand outside. Knowing there might really be a fire, one tends to think of grabbing what is most important, just in case. I thought of all kinds of things in the flash of a minute, but of course I didn't have time for all that, so I tried to be sensible and took my wallet, my keys and an asthma inhaler. In the end, it was just a malfunctioning alarm, but it was a good test in being sensible and calm under sudden duress!
