linaewen: (Boromir in Lorien)
Today is the kind of day in Wisconsin that lifts the heart no matter how low it has dipped. I came upon this passage in a book I am reading, and it describes the day and the season perfectly:

"Every spring is the only spring, a perpetual astonishment. It bursts upon a man every year... as though it had never happened before, but had just been shown by God how to do it, and tried, and found the impossible possible."

Hope the impossible becomes possible for all of you today! And for those who have already experienced the impossible, look for more possibilities, because they never end!

The book is Summer of the Danes, by Ellis Peters, in case you were wondering.

That passage says perfectly what I've been feeling for the past week! Every year, though I've seen it so many times before, I am just blown away by the way the earth bursts into life in spring. I look at the buds on the branches, the daffodils in bloom, the wildflowers coming up, and I wonder and wonder and wonder how it can happen. Yesterday I noticed that the back yard was covered in young, summer-green grass, and I was so surprised I just looked at it for a while.

Hallelujah! Spring is here!

Bet it makes it hard to study, though, doesn't it? ;-)

Ellis Peters is a mystery writer, right? I know I have seen those books somewhere. Anyway the quote is wonderful! Spring really is just like that! (((Lin)))

Yes, she is indeed. That's from a Brother Cadfael mystery.

Thank you for sharing that beautiful quote!

Spring is bursting around here too, though it has been raining for about 4 days now. It will be worth it, though.

We actually might get some frost or even a flurry or two of snow tomorrow, hee! Typical.

ok so you've peaked my interest. Is that book anything like Bernard Cornwell's Lords of the North about the Vikings in Briton?

Yes, I have seen that -- haven't ordered it yet, though!

As for the Ellis Peter's book, it is a historically accurate mystery novel in the Brother Cadfael series, about a Welsh Benedictine monk of the 13th century who solves crime. This particular one involves Danes invading Wales to back a Welsh prince who is disgruntled with another Welsh prince. Brother Cadfael manages to get caught up in it. I love this series (there are 20 some books), as Ellis Peters is second only to Tolkien in my mind for beautiful descriptive writing.

So glad that low-dipping heart received a much-needed and much deserved boost today. ((((hugs))))
