For those who are following Sharpe and his chosen men by reading through the series chronologically -- and anyone else who is interested or wants to join in now or later -- now is the time to make your first report concerning your progress.

Anything special to report?  Have you finished and moved on?  Any favorite passages or images that you wish to share?

Here is something that may be of interest, as you read Tiger -- and later, Triumph and Fortress.  Click here for images of the actual places featured in Sharpe's Tiger and the India series, taken by Bernard Cornwell when he visited India.

I've never been to these places before, but I've been to places much like them -- that's one thing I love about reading this particular set of Sharpe's adventures, the vivid description of the countryside that fits so well with my memories of my time in the northern parts of the Subcontinent.

Do remember to report back here at intervals over the weekend to read what the other "Chosen Men" are sharing.

For those who are new to this adventure, click on the tag at the bottom of the post, to see the previous post about this challenge, including the booklist and our plan to march through Portugal and Spain.

Last but not least, here is a picture of Bernard Cornwell with our hero, at the Battle of... I mean, at the filming of Sharpe's Challenge, the new television film that comes out in the fall here in North America, taking elements from all of Sharpe's India adventures and making a new tale of it -- that I can't wait to see, I might add.  ;-)

Oops, forgot to make my own report. I am actually woefully behind in my reading, because as you know, Generals have a lot of things of things on their plates. But I shall catch up quickly, because I am a very fast reader, and Sharpe's Tiger is my favorite of all the tales, so that makes it easier to read -- since once I start I can't put it down. I have been forcing myself not to read much because I had other responsibilities. But now I can move forward. Tiger was the first Sharpe book I ever read, incidentally, and I loved it immediately!

Cool piccie! So that's what Mr. Cornwell looks like! :-)

P.S. I can't read the text on your icon besides the word "Sharpe". What does it say?

Okay, see you later -- have a great day!

I'm not 'in the army', since I don't have access to the whole series, but I'll tag along the sidelines, if the General doesn't mind! *bows*

I love that picture! Very cool to see Sharpe 'in the flesh' alongside the creator of the character! Not to mention that is a very nice uniform--especially on the man. ;-)

Ooh! I just thought of something. I actually have a Sharpe book -- one I picked up a year ago or something. Perhaps I might be permitted to join with just the one book? (It's "Sharpe's Triumph".)

Of course you may join in, with whatever you have available! Sharpe's Triumph happens to be next in line. :-)

Welcome to the ranks, my friend!

"How do you thank a man who taught you to write your own name?"

Over all I find this book to be a cornerstone for the series, not that it is first, but because it starts with Sharpe unsure if he wants to stay in the Army and as it proceeds, finds Sharpe becoming a man and a damn good soldier. He grows into himself as does his soon to be fast friend Lt Lawford, who helps teach him to read and write as well does Col McCandless.
We also learn to hate Sgt. Haekswill from the start and I wondered why Sharpe didnt just put a bullet to him.
Cornwell has a great wrtiers gift for setting the scene and making his characters come alive and die as well.
The barbarism of war is sickening and he does not turn away from it.

I am almost finished with Triumph and was glad to find many of our friends still here and that Damed Hakeswill too.

Triumph holds much more of Sharpe finding out who is his and finding his comfort in the military too.

Thats all I can report today and must report back to the infirmary to recover my strength.

By your leave,
Tharpie
