I was pretty scarce this weekend, wasn't I? Sorry about that!
Friday was the house closing day, and it was a busy one, to be sure. I'll post more on that another time, because I want to talk today about the other thing I did this weekend.
It was a great weekend -- though it played havoc with my WW diet. How does one recover from eating nothing but doughnuts and Norwegian cookies for a whole day? :-D I shall be fighting with my sweet tooth for the rest of the week, I suspect.

Basically, I was walking down memory lane on Saturday and Sunday, and it was a fun journey. Hubby and I attended the 100th anniversary celebrations of a the church my dad grew up in. The two of us have spoken at this church numerous times, so we have a connection there in addition to the one I have a child attending services there whenever we visited my grandparents.
My family -- grandparents, great-uncles and aunts -- played a big part in this church, and it was fun to see them in old pictures, playing in the string band, working in the kitchen, hosting boys clubs in their home, on picnics with their friends. I came home with 4 CD's worth of pictures that my uncle had put together for sharing during the celebrations, and what a wealth of memories are there on those CD's! I didn't know I remembered so much of these wonderful people.
I want to share with you one of the most special of these pictures -- a picture of my Norwegian grandfather and my Swedish grandmother on their wedding day.

Date: 2006-10-23 03:00 pm (UTC)From:I feel similarly about my grandparent's church. It always touched me, the outpouring of affection for my granparents by everyone at their church. They had always been involved and it is a small town and a small church. Everyone knew and loved them. It was so lovely to visit there!
I am glad you had that opportunity this weekend!
