Following up on commitment
Jun. 7th, 2006 08:08 amBefore I begin, may I just grouse about the fact that I had an entire post ready to go, and when I went to preview it, it just disappeared? And the supposed autosaved draft was nowhere to be found? Grrr! Hope I can remember everything I just finished saying.
*scowls*
So anyway -- yesterday, I made a commitment to doing what needed to be done, so that I wouldn't have to continue feeling bad about my failure to do so. I think I was fairly successful, even though I didn't get all that much deleted from my List of Doom. I tried not to look at what I was NOT accomplishing, and instead concentrated on what I did manage to get done, and that was encouraging.
Over the course of the day, I accomplished the following:
- picked up DS's papers for him
- finally mailed a parcel that needed mailing
- got an unplanned but necessary hair trim
- washed dishes and cleaned up the kitchen
- cooked two meals and didn't resort to saying "just go see what can be scraped together from the fridge"
- did some emailing
- researched nearby campgrounds for the somewhat impromptu camping trip we are taking
- chatted on YM with a dear friend
- spent quite a lot of time here at LJ communicating with my flist, but I don't think it was time wasted
I suppose I could have gotten more accomplished if I had been more committed to being committed, but I think I had the best of both worlds yesterday.
Today's main task centers on that camping trip I mentioned. It hardly seems worth all the work of getting ready to just go for one night, but that's the plan for now. The place we are going to is only half an hour away -- we've never been there before, but it looks like a good place. What state park in Wisconsin isn't a good place for camping, she says with cheesehead pride? ;-) I hope it will be a relaxing time, even if short. I may not be able to do much hiking with my foot being a bit ornery still, but I'm going to try a bit of walking, anyway. I'm also planning on just sitting and writing while DH does some fishing! It's the most gorgeous of days, hurrah!
We are leaving this afternoon (assuming I'm ready) and coming back tomorrow evening (unless we can't bear to leave, in which case, we will come back on Friday). It's nice being able to just pick up and go -- in spite of the work involved in getting ready -- as we don't have to worry about what DS will do. He's got his wheels now and he can take care of himself. Definitely nice!
A full report on our escapades will follow upon our return. :-D
