My birthday outing
Jun. 16th, 2006 08:22 amMy hubby is not taking me out to eat for my birthday tomorrow, he's planning something better -- he's taking me to visit the UW Madison Aboretum, which I've been wanting to do for ages. It's a marvelous place, preserving Wisconsin's natural wetlands, prairies and savannas and forests. There are driving routes as well as hiking routes. I'm especially keen on prairie and wetland ecosystems these days, so I think we'll concentrate on that, and leave the mosquito-infested forests for another day. The place is too big to see it all at once anyway!
I've got to remember to pack the camera and the bird book and the binoculars -- and yes, the mosquito repellant, just in case the forest draws us in. ;-)
We will be going on our outing today, to avoid the weekend crowd, so I can still celebrate my birthday doing what I like to do best on that day -- loafing! :-D I shall probably make my family submit to watching something Sean Beanish, as well, since it's my day and I'm in control of it -- I have lots of choices for films to watch, some of which I have been saving and haven't seen yet. After tramping about in the wild today, though, I expect I'll be in a mood for Boromir. Or maybe Sharpe...
In other news, my son did NOT get the job at Kmart, so we are back to square one, though he now has a pleasant interview under his belt and a resume written. He is disappointed, but takes this to mean that the job was not the right one for him, and that there is another one waiting out there with his name on it. My good boy!
Have a lovely day, all! Hopefully it won't rain here, lol!
