We are getting ready here to return to the big city after many days of vacation over the holidays.  I'm really ready for it, I am so out of sorts from not having my usual schedule, I don't know which end is up.  For some reason, I always feel like Christmas should be on a Sunday, so when it isn't, it really messes me up as to what day it is -- and that affects the entire holiday break.  I need to get back to my routine!  Even so, I have to admit, it's been very nice not having a routine!

However....

In the course of doing last minute laundry and dishes before leaving, we have discovered that our hot water heater is on the fritz.  The pilot light runs and the gas turns on, but nothing heats.  That's a real problem!  We can't go off and leave our DS for weeks without any hot water.

So DH is trying to figure out if he can fix it.  It may need a part replaced, and he may be able to do it himself -- but we might end up having to call a plumber, too.  In either case, who knows when we will get away?  Unexpected fix-it jobs always take longer than expected.  Oh, well.  If it's fixable, DH will know, and he'll be able to deal with it.

The delay will take some of the pressure off me for today, as I still have errands I need to run.  I can't let up with the getting ready to go, as we might still be able to get off even late tonight.  That will make tomorrow a pain, because Tuesdays are extremely full and busy and if I don't have a few hours to take stock of my "new" surroundings, I'll probably be feeling a bit stressed.  But I'll manage, I guess!

Anyway, life is interesting when unexpected things happen, isn't it?  ;-)  I'm just glad the water heater did what it did while we were still here and could deal with it, rather than waiting until DS was alone with no clue what was happening.
