linaewen: (Coffee Black by wizzicons)

The easiest way to update today is to put all the random stuff in a pot, shake it up, and pour it out for you to look at.  So here goes!

Health:
  • I am well, my December cold is almost gone, and while I have the usual stress of holiday combined with moving and the List of Doom, I am dealing with it in a peaceful fashion.
  • I weighed in at Weight Watcher's yesterday and I am happy to announce that I lost another 4/10 of a pound -- which is hardly enough to count, and yet since it occurred over the holidays and I wasn't even being that careful, I'd say it's worth preening about.  ;-)
  • I had a routine physical not long ago, and got the test results yesterday.  My BP is excellent, my cholesterol and triglycerides are better than they've ever been, but my blood sugar is high normal, so I'm going to start being more careful.  Everything is against me as far as genes go when it comes to diabetes, so I really ought to have been watching it earlier, but there you are.  No time like the present for change! I'm already doing what I need to with my weight, so we'll take the next step and watch the carbohydrates more carefully.  Guess I can start with learning to like black coffee.  :-/
Holidays:
  • We had a pleasant family time this holiday season.  It was a bit of running around over the course of the last few days, but our families are all less than two hours travel apart so it could have been worse!  Everyone got practical gifts for the most part, and our folks were wonderfully generous, so we are feeling loved and appreciative.
  • My DH feels sheepish that what he got for me was all stuff he'll benefit from -- a crock pot and other stuff for the kitchen -- but little did he know I was hoping I'd get a bigger crock pot!  It's not quite big enough for the turkey I have to cook today, but it's still a nice one.  ;-)
  • I did not get Christmas cards sent out on time, though that was my plan, but I got some lovely ones for Christmas from my neice, and they will still work even after the New Year, so that calls for a YAY!  I can still keep to that goal, though it be late.
  • Plans for the remaining holiday season include cooking a turkey today that thawed faster than it was supposed to, going to church on New Year's Eve, then coming home to watch the Packers (hopefully) beat the Bears, then play our traditional game of LOTR Risk.  I beat my guys out big time last year when we played, so I'm looking forward to trying my hand at it again.  :-D
Goals for today:
  • cook turkey and fixings
  • return a couple of things that don't fit in the hopes of exchanging them for something that does
  • work at getting the kitchen set up once and for all -- it's workable as it is, but many things I need are still in boxes or in a jumble in the pantry!
  • help DH figure out the design for tiling our new bathroom
  • catch up on stories my friends are writing, and maybe even do a bit of writing myself
There may be more chota mota that needs reporting, but I haven't thought of it yet!  For now, I'm off to have some BLACK coffee, and then get to work on my day.

Have a peaceful day, my friends; you are all in my thoughts and prayers!
A good stew.

but really lin, there are things to add to coffee that harm you not, use Splenda and a sugar free creamer, or a fat free creamer that uses Splenda like i do. Surely life is worth a little Mocha Joy.

Deep Peace is my new mantra, Thank You Ever So Much.

I wished for a new Stainless Skillet, and got one too! Yea!
I didnt get an Espresso Machine, But maybe one day.

Love and Peace,
Ono

Can I come over for turkey and fixings? It's been about two years since I have had any and it sounds really good!

You seem to thrive on ambitious lists. I hope it has lots of check marks on it later on. It would be nice to end the day with some nice new clothes and progress on the house - which should smell delicious!

I am not sure about Ada's assertion that Splenda and fat free creamer harm you not, necessarily. I think perhaps it may just harm you differently...but it is certainly a better choice for diabetes prevention and weight management. Have you tried Stevia? Some people like it and some don't, but those that do find lots of uses for it. I have only had it in herb teas and in a lemonade recipe and it was good that way. I may buy some and see if I like it for other things.

*hugs!* You didn't mention your dinner last night, I hope you had a nice time!

May you succeed in all you plan for today, with some time left to relax and enjoy the feeling of accomplishment.

Crockpots, Turkey and RISK it all sounds great to me. I haven't had a good game of Risk in Years it's one of my favourite games!
Congrat's on weight-loss over the holidays that is an accomplishment I'm sure I've taken two steps back this holiday season.
I have to agree with you on the sweeteners they are not good for you and they leave a bad taste in the mouth. I think sugar is still a better choice than artifical sweeteners so I think you will be stuck with Black Coffee ewww I can't drink coffee in any form.
Happy turkey cooking I can smell it from here mmmm mmmm.

I like such chota-mota posts (though I've never heard that particular expression before - what exactly does that mean?). Have a good time sliding over into 2007!

Sounds like you are busy as usual, ((((Lin)))). I'm glad your cold is gone. 4/10 IS something to crow about over the holidays! I go in tomorrow for my first weigh-in in two weeks with fear and trepidation. ;?)
