linaewen: (Tree Firmly Planted by juno_icons)
There's not much to report here in Linville, except that it's cold and snowy, and the sun is out today.  I had a productive no-computer Wednesday, where my main accomplishment was organizing my tupperware cupboard and the pantry, and actually sitting down and reading a novel for a change.  It was a pleasant day!  Yesterday was not as productive, I'm not sure why -- I think I was just tired (from having my sleep disturbed by a coughing DH), cold, and out of sorts, and it didn't make for a good day of doing anything.  So I just loafed and finished my novel, and unpacked one box of books.

Today I have plans for some errands (a search for warmer socks is in order if we are going to keep the thermostat set low like this) and I have some reports to prepare.  More boxes could be unpacked, as well -- I'm thinking it would be a good goal for the day to fill the empty bookshelves around the place, now that they are set up and dusted.

It's already midmorning, so I guess I shall get started on that!

ETA:  I was commenting in a friend's blog and came up with this thought, when talking about being on the computer less:

Time away from the computer at the right time is a good goal, that can make a difference to many projects that might suffer otherwise. One of the things I have to figure out, though, is how to do the real work that I have to do which requires the computer without being distracted by the other things that are there at the click of a mouse button. I might have to get everything on the laptop harddrive and then remove the network card, so I stay offline for the duration of that work time! That would help a lot, I'm sure.

I'm thinking I might have to try that today, with the reports I have to prepare.  Maybe I'll have to add a "computer on but offline" day to my schedule, in addition to my "no computer" day.  :-D

I had an open box as my usericon, but I have changed it to this one by [profile] juno_icons, which I call "Tree Firmly Planted" -- it reminds me of this verse from the Psalms, which is what my real goal in life is, to be firmly planted in doing what is right, and therefore prosperous:

He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.  (Psalm 1:3)

You just have to remember to leave enough time to unpack books because you KNOW you'll have to look them over as you do. Books are just like that. They command and call to us.
Keep warm.
