We've had our first house-remodeling setback. The (expensive) marble sink top we special ordered arrived on Friday, and we picked it up and got it out of the box yesterday -- and it totally clashes with our new tile work and the floor we had planned to put in (which hasn't been done yet). It was supposed to be "English Brown" and the sample piece they had in the store was just what we wanted. But what came has a definite pinkish cast to it, and it just doesn't look right, not even if we change the floor tile to a lighter color. The pink sink changes the color of everything in the room, and we just can't "make do" with that. :-/
Now we are in quandary. We could return it and try ordering another, but it would be at least three weeks more of waiting, and then what if they really can't control the color any better on the next one? DH is going to take it back and talk to the store people about it, and show them just how poorly the color matches. There won't be any problem with sending it back, we just have to decide what to replace it with. Maybe we'll just have to get an ordinary marble one off the shelf and not go with the really nice kind we had wanted -- it would be far better to be temporarily disappointed in having to downgrade in quality but to have something that matches, than to have something really fancy and hate it everytime you go into the room because it just doesn't look right.
I've taken some pictures of some of the parts of the house that are presentable, but I can't find my card reader for the digital camera, so I can't upload pictures in my camera. But so you can see a little something, I managed to get a couple of decent shots with the cell phone.
There's lots of work yet to do around the place, but it does feel like home, and that's very settling. :-)

This one is pretty blurry and the tile is really too dark to see the design and color well, but it does give a vague idea of what the tile in the bathroom looks like. I'll try to have a better one later, when I find that digital card reader...

Here are a couple of pictures of our living room, with the refinished floor showing to good effect. The couch is just waiting for a nicer one to come along before it gets consigned to the basement, but it is comfy even if it is not matching anything. We still don't have all the decorations up.

The rug is something we got locally, but it looks so much like a carpet we had in Pakistan, it's amazing! The painting on the mantel is one I inherited from my grandmother and it makes me very pleased to see it up there, reminding me of her house, and her mantel.

(I do hope y'all were able to figure out a replacement for the Pink Sink of Doom!)
*more hugs*
Sorry, I keep thinking of Dr. Seuss:
This
petsink, I think, is called a Yink.It likes to wink.
It likes to drink.
It likes to drink and drink and drink.
The drink it likes to drink is ink.
The ink it likes to drink is pink.
It likes to wink and drink pink ink.
So if you have a lot of ink,
You need a
petsink like this, I think.*blink blink*
*wanders off aimlessly, quoting "One Fish"*
