linaewen: (Tom Bombadil)
I was tagged by [profile] radbooks and [personal profile] lothithil on this one!

Writer's Meme :  Sometimes it's ok to pimp yourself out. Post a list of the top five favorite fics you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.

This was hard, you know?  I kept thinking of things I have written that would qualify -- simply because I am quite fond of them for one reason or another.  But, since I was limited to five, I tried to think about which works had a special reason for me liking them -- as well as the ones that came to mind first.  Sorry, but I fear they are all a bit heavy on the subject of Boromir, lol!

Gondor Will See It Done:  This was my very first poem, as well the first thing I ever wrote and posted publically.  It was written after seeing Fellowship of the Ring in the theater and having my prayers answered for seeing Boromir's final battle on the big screen.  ;-)  It was also the poem that put me in touch for the first time with a now very dear friend, [profile] boriel, who wrote and asked me if she could put in on a website she had at the time.

110 Days:  Aside from the smattering of poems that served to give me some confidence as I flexed my writer's wings, this was my first attempt at anything major in the public arena, and I consider it my very first "success" story.  Being a Boromir fan for something like 35 years, I had always thought it sad that there wasn't more written about his trip from Minas Tirith to Rivendell, other than "I lost my horse at Tharbad."  This tale (started in 2002) became that gapfiller for me.  It started out as being just a couple of paragraphs that weren't meant to go anywhere -- but I couldn't stop writing, lol!  I am planning on going back to this tale in the very near future and doing a rewrite.  I've learned some things along the way as I have gotten into writing more and more, and I want to go back and work with this one again, because it is special to me.

Conversations with Boromir:  These are just silly things, but silly is a lot of fun!  They were orginally written for the forum where I was posting my stories, as a ploy to share news of how my writing was going (or not going) or what I was up to in my travels or my work.  They turned out to be quite popular, lol!  My favorites of these are Boromir Experiences the Power of Cheese, Linaewen and the List of Doom, and Linaewen's Bane.  Though I am also pretty fond of the one where my Boromir action figures brag to each other about their finer qualities.  Hee!

When Will I See You Again?:  This poem wasn't perhaps all that good as poetry goes, but it meant a lot to me personally.  It was written while I was living overseas, during the time after my DH and I had been forced by a new government law against foreigners to leave the city where we had lived and worked for some years.  I contemplated that Boromir might have had similar feelings of frustration at not being able to return to his own City as quickly as he wanted to, wondering if he would ever get back -- so I tried to write down what I was feeling, seen through his eyes.  A few tears were shed while I wrote it, but it helped a lot!

Feet That Wander:  This was just a short thing I wrote, about Tom Bombadil.  Yes, I managed to get Boromir in there, as well, but it really wasn't about him.  It was an attempt to take a serious look at Tom B. and what his role in the world might really be.  I don't know if I accomplished that, but I did feel I understood him better after writing it!  It really did help me see past the veneer of "silliness" that often hides Tom, to get a respectful look at him.  And I liked what I saw.

Well, that's five, and I didn't even include my current favorite, Lords of Gondor.  I didn't include it simply because it's the obvious choice, and also because it's not done yet.  ;-)  I thought I'd talk about some other things I've written for a change.

I don't think I'll tag anyone, because I don't want to choose one person over another, who might be interested in doing this.  But please, my writing friends who haven't yet been tagged, do participate if you can!  I am interested in knowing how you view your own writings!
