As always, you write Boromir so truthfully in character that I cannot help but believe that if Frodo were unable to continue his quest, Boromir is the one he would choose as the new Ringbearer. It makes a lot of sense that in his remorse over his falling to the Ring's seduction would make him immune to it thereafter.
