Just so you know I haven't disappeared, I thought I'd let you know what I am up to here.

DH and I left ChiTown on Thursday and headed north to the cold place. Wisconsin, that is. ;-) It was significantly colder just 100 miles north of Chicago, which isn't very far into Wisconsin -- but far enough for us to have frost on our garden on Friday night. Fortunately, having great foresight and being aware of the weather report, I covered the tomatoes.

I have been staying with my dad the last day or two, which is all the explanation needed for my inability to keep up with posts and news. He has a lovely computer, but his internet connection is painful. I guess it's not so bad as far as dial up connections go, but after one has gotten used to a cable modem, it's hard to go back to slooooooooowness. I can't download anything, or watch any streaming videos, or listen to any music or get any complicated graphics to load in less than an hour. Frustrating! Not that I do that all that daily or anything, but one realizes just how limiting a dial up connection is once you have had all the advantages of the other kind. And there are no unsecured wireless connections in the neighborhood, either, alas!

Interesting, I don't seem to have rich-text capability with this post, I suppose that goes along with the fact that the connection is so slow here it resets everything to the simplest option possible?

Anyway... I know I complain about this every time I come here, sorry!

Today would have been my mom's 83rd birthday, so I thought it would be good for my dad to have me stay. He had me drive him to the cemetery so we could give my mom some nice flowers he'd picked up. I like going there, but I prefer to go by myself, so I think I'll stop in another day for a few private moments. ;-)

I'm meeting my best friend since 6th grade for breakfast tomorrow, which will be lovely. We've not had a good chat over coffee for like forever! We'll both talk a blue streak and finish each other's sentences and drink a pot of coffee each, and have a great time.

Then tomorrow evening I'm driving my dad to a state park about an hour away for a get together with a bunch of teachers he used to teach with who are involved in an outdoor education program -- they are having a surprise party for one of the teachers who is retiring and having his last camp. It will be very nostalgic, and Dad'll have a ball if he doesn't get too tired out. I wish it were happening earlier in the day, then I could hike while he is hobnobbing with the guys. It's my favorite park in the whole world!! But I think it's going to be raining anyway, so I probably will be stuck inside with a bunch of rowdy old teachers who will all remember having me in class and tell me "my, how you've grown!" LOL!

Anyway, not a bad visit at all, except for the annoying internet stuff. Hopefully, this thing I'm writing here will actually post and not disappear in the time it will take it load the page!

*endeavors to think positively*

It's back to the rest of my family on Wednesday, then back to Chicago on Thursday. We won't have gotten near enough done that we wanted to, I bet, but we can always come back. We'll have to, if we don't want to miss the fall colors of Wisconsin. ;-)
