In case you were wondering what I am doing on my vacation -- besides eating cheese -- I went hiking today.
My idea of a vacation is doing nothing, just resting, but my hubby likes to DO things, so we went hiking today at Devil's Lake in Wisconsin. This is where we went on our honeymoon -- yes, we camped for our honeymoon (and it rained the entire time and us in a tent!)
But today was a great day, no rain in sight, nor even any clouds -- the sun shone all day and the sky was a beautiful blue, yet it wasn't that hot, as there was a nice breeze, especially on the bluffs.
Hiking was a bit hard to start out with, since we did the straight up the rocky bluff trail first (I vowed several times during this climb to lose weight immediately) -- but I did fine, stopping a lot to catch my breath and rest my legs while Doug went out to all the edges and peered over. I was surprised I wasn't nervous about that -- like I was when he did it on our honeymoon at the same place! Maybe my fear of falling is getting more manageable...
We did 4 different trails, each over a different kind of terrain -- the worst was the first because it was so steep, the rest were relatively easy. I had one slip, but fortunately it wasn't near the edge. Leave it to me, though, to turn a slip into a story idea! ;-)
I shall have pictures in the near future; the digital camera pix will come as soon as we get them onto the computer -- the others will have to wait until I finish the roll of film.
Tomorrow will be less strenuous -- having an all-day lunch with endless cups of coffee with my best friend from my childhood. ;-)
