I can still remember the anticipation I felt at my first viewing of FOTR -- waiting, hoping to see Boromir's mad dash to the rescue of Merry and Pippin and the fight with the Orcs, that had only been dealt with in the books as a brief memory of Pippin's, almost an afterthought. It was of utmost importance to me that I actually see him fight and fall, though I knew it would be sad, so sad!

It all came back to me afresh as I watched it again this evening for the umpteenth time -- this time on TV. It was marvelous to be able to sit with my hubby and share that memory with him (for the first time, really), and see him nod with understanding and sympathy. Seeing these scenes again still makes me sniffle -- with joy that I could actually witness it on the screen after imagining it for 30+ years, and with sadness at having to say farewell to an honorable man, fictional character though he is.

But may I say, it sure is nice to have him alive in my inklings! ;-)

::Happy sniffle, happy sigh:: I shall never get tired of reading these books and seeing these films!

:-D

i remember the first time i sat in the theatre and watched..i was blown away by it all. I felt like i was watching real life. aNd i wept when boromir fell too even though i had not liked him as a teenager reading the books. I remember the knot in my stomach when he and frodo were alone in the forest and he told frodo, 'what chance do you think you have?' i knew the plot of the book, that he tried to take the ring, but in that instant i had the horrible feeling that he would try and kill frodo. i guess thats why peter is so good. he can fool you even when you know whats going to happen. I came out of the theatre in love with aragorn, wishing gandalf was my uncle or grandfather, and having a new respect and admiration for boromir that i had never known before. I know that sean bean had a lot to do with it of course, but for the first time i actually could see what he went through, from an adult perspective.

i think i need to watch the movie again by myself on my tv and not my computer. there is something special still about watching it alone sometimes. (i also think i need a second boromir icon. something more serious but not scowling. what say you? any cast offs you might have i can borrow for a time?)

I'll have a look in my Boromir file, and you can see if there is anything you like among what I have in my user icons. They tend to be mostly smiley ones now, though.

I can not wait until the extended version of TROTK comes out and then I will sit and watch all three of the extended versions consecutively. I wish it could go on forever!!

I'm going to do that, too -- after I search all the new extended scenes for any sign of Boromir. ;-) Though I bet my family won't let me do that. They made me watch TTT Extended from the beginning without skipping ahead for the Boromir stuff -- it was torture, hehe!

ah yes...I remember the first time I looked into Gollum's deep, marble-like blue eyes and thought, "Ewwww..."
(hee hee)

I thought of you last night when I watched it, and I shed my tears as well when our hero died. (((you)))

I really am a softie, LOL! I cry harder at the happy stuff than the sad stuff sometimes. ;-)

I do too! In ROTK, I cry more during the Destruction of Sauron and the reunion of the Hobbits and the beginning of the Coronation scene than I do at the gray havens.

I wish I could have seen it on TV, but we don't get the WB. I was curious to see how commercial breaks would change the viewing experience. Obviously it didn't bother you.

It's getting close enough now to the release of the EE of ROTK, I'm starting to get really excited. We had a slight disagreement at the dinner table last night. Mark and Tristan were insisting that it comes out in November and was insisting that it was December. I have to admit to a slight flutter in my stomach though at the idea that they might be right and it might be coming in November. I wish it was!

It's so close I can taste it!

Ditto

Yes reliving the death of Boromir each time I see the movie is so sad for me too for he was a very honorable men. And I am so glad that you write so well of him and keeping him alive. Thanks for your wonderfkul stories of Boromir for I do so much enjoy reading them,
