In order to save space I'm putting this behind a cut, except for the first question. Sorry -- should have done that in the first place, because I simply CANNOT keep my answers short! ;-)
1) What was the first piece of fan fiction you ever read?
I am really not certain; I seem to recall I came in at about the time when people were just beginning to start writing more than poetry. I remember being inspired by Prim's poetry -- and had a hand at writing myself; my first offering for the Message Boards was a poem, "Gondor Will See It Done." http://lotrscrapbook.bookloaf.net/poetry/poems/linaewen_gondor.html It was shortly afterwards that my first story idea came to me, and took over my life. ;-)
2) What was the first story you ever wrote?
My first story was "110 Days" -- the story of Boromir's journey from Minas Tirith to Rivendell. http://lotrscrapbook.bookloaf.net/stories/serial/110/index.html It was supposed to stop there, but it didn't take long until I knew I had to keep going with it. The tale turned into "Son of Gondor" -- the story of Boromir as part of the Fellowship, combining the FOTR film with the FOTR book.
THAT was supposed to end with Boromir's death, but it didn't take long before I knew I had to keep going -- again! The result was a series of tales about Boromir, Captain of Gondor -- which is now confined to the ongoing "Face of the Enemy" -- and eventually "Lords of Gondor."

I did do a few short tales about nonBoromir types, BTW, just so you don't think I'm totally fixated. ;-)
3) What story are you the most proud of?
I am quite fond of "Lords of Gondor" because it is so very fascinating to see how the characters are developing beyond the books, yet at the same time within the frame of the books. I am getting into the mind of so many different characters -- what fun!
4) What story are you least proud of?
I am pleased with all my stories, but I was somewhat unhappy with the "Face of the Enemy" tale I had been working on, because I changed my mind about how I was dealing with Denethor. So, I went back and rewrote it -- now I am happy with it. Even though it is tormenting me with being unfinished. :-/
5) What is your favorite format to write in? (vignette, short story, long story, etc.)
Serialized stories seem to be my favorite, as just about every short story I do ends up fitting into the grand scheme of my serial tales.
6) What fic(s) have you read that suprised you?
I wasn't surprised, really, but I was unexpectedly moved by several tales in particular -- Northstar's "The Abduction of Celebrian," AuntKimby's "Firewood," and CRB/Ladyhawk's "Sacrament."
MNS add-on question:
7) What was your biggest challenge ever in writing your own stories?
In "Lords of Gondor" I was greatly challenged with what to do when I realized (in the nick of time before it was too late to change anything) that it would be out of character for his friends to leave a wounded Boromir alone in the forest, to chase after and rescue the captured hobbits. I had to change my plan and move away from sticking to the books the way I wanted to. It was a real wrench to give up my original idea and figure out a way to fix the problem in believable fashion, and still maybe get back to where I wanted to be in the first place.

Indeed, a very good meme, OBT and you others who have participated so far! For the record, my Boromir tales -- and those less-than-serious Boromir conversations -- are collected at http://www.ladyhawkhollow.com/ in the Library under Linaewen, as well as in the LOTR Scrapbook. ...
