How DOES he do that?

Every time I walk home from the grocery store with a backpack full of heavy stuff, and a cloth bag over my shoulder full of more heavy stuff, I wonder -- how did Boromir walk all those miles with that shield slung over his shoulder without it contantly slipping and sliding off? You never see him in the film tugging at it or hitching it up. It seems to stay up quite nicely all by itself. I suppose he does put his hand on it now and then, but really, it seems to be quite glued to that shoulder of his.

I suppose it's just camera trickery; I certainly find it impossible to keep my shoulder bag on my shoulder where it belongs. Though maybe if I had shoulders like Boromir... Er, maybe not! :-D

Nothing much else to report, except I got my wee little hideout cleaned up so I can sit in it and get away from guests and sons and hubbies, and write stories. I am currently trying to decide which action figures will be moved in there to adorn the shelf I have set aside for the purpose.

I think Boromir is wearing a super-duper hiking backpack - plus his broad shoulders don't hurt the situation. But think of poor Sam and all the stuff he carried; and take comfort in the fact that should you be climbing down sheer rock face thus burdened, and take a digger, you will be well padded.

Don't forget that Boromir had lovely manly super-strength, mmmmmm. And maybe the shields were made of cardboard, and were just a clever Gondorian decoy...LOL!

Boromir is a very big man and he has wide shoulders. I think the man can do anything. *wink* And then it was a movie and everything in the movies they make look so easy. Don't forget his lovely brother Faramir in your hide away.

I had not thought of that but, yeah. I can't imagine carrying a pack for as long as the Fellowship did. Boromir did have broad, manly shoulders, though, so it probably was not too hard for him. ;?)

actually he does 'hike it up' on a few occasions - most notably the scene on the top of carahadris (sp?) It actually goes 'thump' too - so its heavy. I think the reason it didnt slide is that its round :D

As long as it's not eggs in your sack. But hey, Sam's cast-iron pans did him a few good turns; brained a few orcs in Moria, cooked nice crispy bacon on Weathertop, and kept him from getting stung by giant spiders!

Maybe the Minas Tirith Chapter of Future Stewards of Gondor had special lessons in Carrying Heavy Loads Without Breaking a Sweat or Getting Chronic Shoulder Pain.

However...I"m thinking you should take "someone" along with you so that you don't have to carry those heavy bags home alone.

Fortunately, it's only a couple of blocks, and I tried to buy no more than what I knew I could carry. Normally, I would have had a pack mule, but they were both busy. ;-)

It's definitely movie trickery. I'll bet there's a blooper reel out there of shot after shot of Sean Bean hitching that sheild up. Then again, what is it made of? Is it metal or is it polystyrene? If it's polystyrene, then Ngila could have just stitched it to his costume..end of problem.

From what I understand, it is fairly authentic for a shield -- wood covered with metal of some sort. So it wouldn't be light! I am wondering if the leather strap made it easier to keep up...

I'd give anything (figuratively speaking) to see a blooper reel like that! :-D
