linaewen: (Lords of Gondor by captinskywalker)
This is two days early, but I thought the one being honored would not mind if I posted this today. ;-)

In honor of the upcoming birthday on Friday of [profile] my_cocoon -- which is also MY birthday, I might add with absolutely no shame :-D -- I have written my first drabble ever. And since I could not possibly keep it to 100 words, I have made it a double drabble.

Also, since I can't ever write anything that does not have historical background and research involved, here is the setting for this particular drabble:

On June 20, 3018 -- according to Tolkien's Tale of Years -- Sauron attacked Osgiliath. Boromir spoke of that attack before the Council of Elrond, saying, "...in the days of June, sudden war came upon us out of Mordor..."

The day had been especially warm, even for the middle days of June. As dusk fell and bright stars appeared in the darkening sky, the heat of the sun could still be felt emanating in warm waves from broken stone walls and crumbled masonry – all that remained of the once great city of Osgiliath.

From his vantage point atop an elevated terrace of tumbled flagstone nigh the great stone bridge spanning the Anduin River, Boromir gazed out across the water to the eastern shore, veiled in silent shadow. The enemy was there, lurking in the darkness. Any day now, they would come – a horde of Orcs awaiting only the signal from their Master to attempt passage of the bridge. If that passage was won, then Sauron would gain for his armies a straight path into the heart of Gondor.

That must be prevented at all costs.

“Only a matter of days now until loëndë, the Middle-day,” sighed Boromir ruefully. “It should be a time of festival and merry-making! Yet here I am, awaiting certain battle – if word received by my father of the Dark Lord’s movements is accurate...”

Boromir scowled.

'Twas a fine way to spend one’s birthday!

And here's an illustration to accompany the double drabble: Captain of Gondor

Happy Birthday To Us All

I read it through twice, I saved the picture as my Desktop Wallpaper, I wrote a wee something the other day for you and posted it because once the story is written of Boromir Son of Denethor, Sword Arm of Gondor, It Shall Be Told. You know of what I speak, I see.
I hope the Tolkien Token I sent you for Our Birthday arrives soon to your home.

Thank you Margie for being my friend and remaining true day by day.

Thank you my Boromir-Friend

Thank you

Boromir Always
(Dedicated to Lin4Gondor)

The battle raged on as if some dream gone mad, a blow from an axe sent his helmet flying.
Seeing the foes Captain, he slew a path through the damned,
spliting the orc in twain the evil host withdrew, Boromir stood alone among those left dying.
Turning about he saw his men standing, staring at him a hundred paces away, awe struck they gazed;
their General ever to the fore, showing his quality, a hero to some, but he remained Boromir Always.

Ever At Your Service
Tom

Boromir Always

Amen! Thank you, I love that piece! And yes, I know of what you speak -- one cannot keep Boromir silent once he is written.

Your token has not yet arrived, but I am watching for it daily. ;-)

Reposting for The One Birthday Borormir

Hail Boromir
by; Onóno

Strength in His silence
Courage in His stance
General of Gondor's Alliance
Determination in His glance

Women quivered, men bowed low
As the Sword-Arm of Gondor rode by
To save His people, He rode alone
"Remember this day little brother," He sighed

On this, the anniversary of His birth
A holiday celebrated as no other
We raise our cups, to His name, in mirth
To the success and victories of my Brother

Hail to the Victor!
Boromir!
Hail to the General!
Boromir!
Hail to our Brother!
Boromir!
Boromir!
Boromir!
