Here is a link to a ministry that was reaching out in New Orleans, with which I am familiar:

http://www.urbanimpact.org/

I know the man who is the Executive Director -- he is from one of my home supporting churches in Wisconsin, the church my folks and my brother attend. I know his mother, even!

At this time, the ministry has been relocated to Arkansas, along with other evacuees and staff related to the work, so it's not perhaps one of those places that can take actual clothing donations at this time, but I wanted to share this information with you as an option, if anyone is interested in supporting in this way -- if not now, then in the future when they return to New Orleans. They are working at getting set up to return as soon as they can, and need much prayer in doing so -- prayer requests are listed on the site.

I'm having trouble finding places taking donations of items rather than funds, because it seems that at this time, the funds are more important for helping them get set up to receive the other kind of donation. I'll keep looking.

In the meantime, I shall continue my prayers for

-- those who are still suffering,
-- those who are trying to help them,
-- relief agencies as they work out the best way to get needed supplies to the people who are needy,
-- local, state and federal authorities, and for the President, who all need much wisdom in dealing with everything that needs doing to bring relief and a return to safety.

Adding my prayers to yours. God bless those trying to help in any way. ~~Ladyhawk Baggins

I was really glad when Heartland said they were organizing clothing, blankets, etc donations. I have an abundance of clothing that is still in fine shape but I'll never wear. We have been talking lately of simplifying our lives and part of that means getting rid of stuff and what a great way to be able to do it.

I'm even ready (when it's needed) to give away home decorations (candle holders, picture frames, etc). I'm just waiting for the go ahead.

I imagine our church in Wis. will be doing the same eventually. Maybe the church we attend here in Reading, too. Which would be great, because we, too, are getting rid of stuff these days.

((((You)))) Simplifying is a good thing -- I just wish it didn't take so much work. ;-)
