I had a nasty shock last night, just before I went to bed. I decided it was about time I checked my blood pressure -- and I was unpleasantly surprised at how high it was. And this is with medication. I checked it again upon getting up this morning and it was still very high. Checked once more just now and it is lower than it was, but higher than it should be.
So I start being careful again. More regular walking and exercise, nose to the diet grindstone to lose weight (which is the biggest culprit, I'm sure), and watch my salt -- a real hardship for me, as living overseas in a place that was curry heaven gave me a real love for salty foods.
In other news, the tent is still up in the living room. DH watched tv for hours from inside the tent, with the excuse that he was testing it to see how much room there was. ;-) The package claims as to its size are definitely misleading, but we will still be fine; it's enough for the two of us.
DH has gone out to help his dad cut down a cherry tree (no lie) and it is quiet here, except for the drone of the interstate coming in the window, so I think I'll have a go at some writing before I take DS (Dear Son) out for a practice drive and then to the library.
But first, that healthy walk...

Date: 2006-04-21 06:31 pm (UTC)From:Well the bloodpressure is worrisome and it's not much fun to have to regulate and restrict yourself! Still there are some nice side benefits other than the most important one. When my doctor's office called with my bloodwork after my recent checkup and gave me the shopping list, "Well Gina, nothing needs to be medicated at this point, but you're anemic, probably hypoglycemic, your good cholesterol is too low and your bad cholesterol is too high. We suggest you..." and then they gave me my marching orders which included diet, exercise and supplements. It succeeded in motivating me and I admit I am enjoying the results. I'm feeling better already!
Enjoy your healthy walk and I hope you can fit in some writing time today!

Date: 2006-04-21 08:55 pm (UTC)From:Have you had your blood pressure machine checked to see that it is correctly calibrated? Stuff can go out of whack, and give false readings, in either direction. Of course, getting a false high reading is perhaps safer than a false low one, but still, it might be worthwhile to have it checked.

Date: 2006-04-21 10:21 pm (UTC)From:stay away from:
packaged stuff
convienence foods
sugar
low fat especially with aspartame or splenda
i'd not worry too much about your cheese if it were me, but yes, cut the salt to the bone! (or try real sea salt instead? table salt has a ton of sugar in it, sea salt has minerals that you need)
and i'll be keeping tabs on you now, since you dont need to keep tabs on me anymore (health wise) so be on your toes my darling :))

Date: 2006-04-21 11:01 pm (UTC)From:I typed that before I realized what you meant by me not needing to keep tabs on you anymore, so I went investigating and now I am still sniffling with happiness!!!!
To continue, no fear on the aspartame/splenda stuff, I hate it. I need to behave when it comes to processed sugar and salt. I will look into the sea salt idea, that sounds appealing.
Maybe I will try to learn to drink my coffee black. That would help a lot!

Date: 2006-04-28 03:43 pm (UTC)From:The tent thing was so much fun, hee -- no matter the inconvenience of trying to walk about with a tent in the room! I can't wait to snuggle with Doug in the tent for real! We're getting to be really keen on camping, now that it's not the norm. When we were overseas, the last thing I wanted to do was something rustic, because it was too much like day to day living. Now camping is kind of like a walk down memory lane -- cooking on a kerosene stove, just like old times! :-D
The blood pressure is still tricksy, but behaving a little better than it was. Something to send me, eh? You are a dear one, to be sure!
*hugs powered by adoration*
