Well, the saga of the computer motherboard is over -- at least the decison-making part. All the parts for the resurrecting of my son's computer have been ordered, and will actually arrive today -- at which time, there will be a new chapter of the saga, the putting it together and seeing if it works chapter. My DH is a wonder when it comes to this kind of thing; he has no training in particular with computers, but he has learned a lot through reading and taking things apart. Sometimes learning is nothing more than not being afraid to take something apart and put it back together again to see how it works -- and that's what he does.
When he's done with all this, we should all have our own computer with DSL access to the internet -- my son's computer will be up and running again, which means I can have the laptop back. And since DH also ordered a wireless router and a wireless card for the laptop, we can now hook up Dear Son to the internet network, and get the laptop online as well. Goodbye dialup forever, hello me not having to grapple with DH and DS for the use of a computer.
We will just have to make sure we at least meet for meals during the day!
That's actually a danger we'll have to be aware of, but for now, I'm looking forward to being uninterrupted when I'm on the computer actually doing real work. Which does happen on occasion. ;-)

Date: 2006-04-28 05:29 pm (UTC)From:I'm contemplating just having him leave the old laptop upstairs though as then we would have two computers between me and the kids which would be nice. And believe me, I can relate to the "neverseeingeachotherfacetofacebecauseyourfaceisburiedinacomputerallthetime" dilemna. LOL!! Our church last week started a new series and it's being partially done online (the questions are being submitted through AIM) so here's Mark in one row with his laptop with me sitting next to him and Tristan behind us in the next row with his laptop. And we call it church! LOL!!
Actually, it was really good, the topic was sex and it was really well handled. As in, the first thing they mentioned is that sex is a gift from God to us and not evil or dirty. THEN they went into talking about the right place for sex in a healthy relationship. I've always thought that the church gets the cart before the horse with their teaching on sex.
It's like that quote in my blurb. We're so worried about what God is against, we've forgotten what he is FOR! Amen.
