linaewen: (In Good Hands)
It's odd, even when one is home all the time and doesn't have a regular nine to five job, there is still something nifty about it being Saturday. It's the weekend, and that means it's a bit more okay for you to goof off and do fun stuff, I guess. ;-)

Today's fun stuff includes trying to get our computers working together with a wireless router and card in the laptop, instead of declaring war on each other and shutting down the internet so we can't get on with any of them. That was an exciting development, fixed by unplugging all the new goodies! We'll figure it out, though.

DS is on his fixed (but still slightly wonky) computer, playing games he could never run on it before. So he's content, even though there are a few quirks still to work out -- things that needed fixing that didn't get dealt with by the new parts we installed. More fun!

It's amazing how much actual helpful input I am having with all this, even though DH is the technical one. Sometimes intuition works when it comes to computers, too -- and I'm the one who is on the computer most in our family, and it seems I might have absorbed some useful knowledge in the process. ;-)

Well, time to get off the computer and go for a walk! Have an enjoyable Saturday, no matter how you spend it!

Edit: Well, I'm online on my laptop, with highspeed internet, but it's a bit quirky. Something has caused us to lose our internet connection twice, now, so that neither computer works at all online. But unplugging and reconnecting the router seems to help. I've been able to update my virus definitions and download a bunch of stuff now, and I'm still here! Waiting to lose the connection kinda reminds me of the subquality internet days in Pakistan -- ah, nostalgia! :-D

Oh, and GIP!

Nobody does intuition like you do, my friend- you are the embodiment of "a word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver." Or a computer fitly tweaked, either one.
((((hugs))))) Enjoy your Saturday!

like having some time to watch ROTK while ironing and cleaning, and taking time for a poem and a nap, and grandchildren, and gardening, yes Margie, Saturdays are indeed special.

Love,
Ada

am waiting for jacquie to come over - the universe conspired against me yesterday and she said yes, AFTER i sent the email to madison lol. so we are going in about a half hour. its raining and cold here - more conspiracy as i wanted to wear a short sleeved One shirt without a jacket. ah well. hopefully the crowd will heat me up enough to take the coat off...and i hope to say hello to them for katrina at the end of the show :)

also, the universe conspired again. my doc called with the names of two more plastic surgeons... one number is no longer in service. the other i cant find a number for. The other plastic surgeon she recommended, who's booked for 6 months, might be able to refer me, but her office was closed yesterday. so was the office of the surgeon to remove this danged port cathetar. i can see why fridays are not good days for doing business.

now? more to eat before i leave, and maybe vacuum the upstairs except my cat is up there sleeping :)

btw.... i do truly love that icon.

You just answered a question I had! Sounds like we are having the same weather. Praying you and J have the greatest of times, and that you get to say to the band for K and that you get some pix! And that you can find someone to help you with the surgeon stuff! Sounds like everyone took an early holiday. :-/

I love this icon, too. Decided to spread it around. ;-)

You know, most of my computer knowledge I just picked up on the job. People often come to me to see if I can help with issues, especially end-user issues to do with the programs we use. I think that you are right, it is sometimes an advantage not to know as much technically and follow your intuition more. At least in certain situations. That and not being afraid of it. You can usually just try things and see what happens without the world coming to an end. People have a tendancy to make computers seem far more mysterious than they are, lol.

Ken and I were hooked up to a router and when the connections goes down on one computer, we always had to reset the router. I would have to unhook the router, then wait thirty seconds, then turn off the cable internet tower thingy, wait thirty seconds, turn it back on and wait for the lights, then plug it back into the router. Sort of a hassle, but better than the alternative of trying to share ;)

Can I beg your pardon and ask what GIP is? I keep seeing it on your LJ and other's, lol.

I am glad you have been enjoying your Saturday!

Well, I guess we're doing it right, then -- unplugging seems to do the trick, but boy is it irritating to have everything quit midstream.

GIP means Gratuitous Icon Post. This was technically not a GIP because I was not posting just to call attention to my new icon, but it's kind of a way to let folks know you are using something new.

Your intuition spreads to all things, my dear! Even the inanimate have no chance against Lin's wisdom -- and I really am not joking here!

I hope that you enjoyed your Saturday!

((((((((((Lin, DH and DS)))))) and maybe a little pat for the computers too!
