Shabash is an Urdu word which means "well done!" My son is the recipient of a joyful shabash today because he is doing his paper route on his own, at least one of them, anyway. He's driving himself there, then moving the car as he progresses through the route. I get to stay home and do home stuff (which today includes laundry, babying my bruised leg and foot, and trying to get my tummy to settle). I shall also fuss a bit and worry a tad, because that's what mom's do when they don't have their boys under their eye -- but he's got the cell phone and knows how to use it, and I'll have to be content with that -- and trust him and his ability, as well as the One who is watching over him. ;-)
This may seem like a small thing to some, whose boys have been driving since they were 16, but to us, it's a big thing -- a sign that our boy is making progress in his quest to mature and find his way on his own here in the US. My DS will be 23 in two weeks, and is only just now getting his driver's legs under him, but now that he's reached this point, he has the confidence to proceed. A solo run yesterday to pick up his papers was just what he needed to build that confidence. The next step for him will be knuckling down and applying for jobs that will pay more and give more experience than delivering papers.
My wounded leg seems to be on the mend; it is not so discolored or puffy. However, it is a bit more sensitive and aching, which is probably contributing to my general feeling of queasiness today. But I'm not queasy enough to get out of doing laundry, so off I go.
Oops, update from my DS. He just came back, after getting lost on his way to his route. He came home to get his bearings and have a cup of tea and get something to cold to drink to take with him. He's still chipper, though, and says he likes driving better when it's just him in the car. :-D
Thinking of all you today, especially those who are particularly weary or burdened. ((((((((Hugs))))))))
