We are looking for the Chosen few who would join the ranks of die hard Sharpe Fans Soldiers.  Those who join this elite company shall be encouraged to read 11 books in 11 weeks to coincide with the release of the latest account of Sharpe's adventures. You will have your library as a Stock pile and or your local bookstores both new and old.

Put your mark on the line if you so choose to join and you will receive further orders shortly.

Here is a wee bit of our marching song.

There's forty shillings on the drum
To those who volunteer to come,
To read Sharpe’s Rifles everyday
Over the Hills and far away.

O'er the hills and o'er the main
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain.
King George commands and we obey,
Over the hills and far away.

For those who wish to accept Sharpe's challenge, here is a chronological list of the novels, that will help you organize your journey through India, Portugal and Spain. The newest book comes out in September, so it will be a challenge indeed, but a fun one! Even if you don't have all the books, or can't get them easily, I hope you will consider joining us! Even I don't have all the books on hand, but I know where they are at the library, so I'm all set, locked and loaded and ready to go!

Beggin the Generals pardon

May I suggest we have our First Inspection start with Sharpe's Tiger on the 1st of July in the year of our Lord 2006. Point being that 'aving an inpection start on Saturday it gives the troops time to fall in.
Said Inspection to be held by General Grenawalt, a time set at the Generals lesiure.
This of course sets the Campaign Timetable off a week, but still acceptable for our purpose.

All in favor and with the General's blessings, say Aye!

Oooo, I'm the General! :-D

Sounds good to me -- I mean, aye! I have begun, but I can slack off as needed.

I heard it was a Field Promotion for bravery above and beyond the call of duty. Also Lt. Mair was promoted to Major Mair
G.G.
M.M.

It was the logical thing to do so I heard Ma'am.

I was also honored by a promotion to Sargeant Tharp
but Sargeant Hakeswill still calls me Tharpie. The man has no respect nor does he deserve any.
July 1st is just the following weekend. Time flys so it does.
I am using my Marker that the Gerenal was so kind to give me, that originated from India, as it were, to mark my progress.
By your leave,
Sgt. Tharp

I am ashamed to admit I have not read any Sharpe. For a Sharpe newbie please let me know anything else I need to know to start. I'm all smiles about this, hooray!

It will be great to have you with us!!

Have you seen any of the Sharpe televised episodes, starring Sean Bean as Richard Sharpe, a British soldier fighting in the Napoleonic Wars? Most of episodes are based on the books, starting with Sharpe's Rifles -- though there are usually differences between the books and the films. But the books are worth reading on their own, and that's what we want to do as a group. There is a new Sharpe book coming out in September, and our worthy goal is to read through the books in chronological order in time to be ready for that book when it comes out.

The books are by Bernard Cornwell, and most libraries have at least some of them, and most bookstores. We plan to start reading them by July 1 -- the first one being Sharpe's Tiger, which takes place in India. (This is the first chronologically, though not the first published.) It happens to be my favorite. I have it on audio tape as well, with Sean Bean reading it, eee! :-D

Here's a link to the author's site, if you want to check it out:

Thank you so much for the background. I know I watched Sharpe in the distant past, but I can't remember anything or anybody except Sean! So that's a clue for me to start over again as a newbie, both with the video and books. This will be exciting for us to do together. We are leaving July 1st for San Francisco so I hope to take a book or two with me. A DVD too, maybe (our player is a portable). I get to be a Sharpe's Soldier. Yea!!

Okay, I've found my first Sharpe book(Tiger) and we are taking it to San Francisco with us. Please give me the lowdown on the DVDs. I am getting confused as to what exactly is out there and in what order. We're both looking forward to this so our household now has two Sharpies!

For pretty good info on the original series, go here:

The DVD's begin with Sharpe's Rifles. I'll see if I can find a better ordered list and post it for you.

Yay for more Sharpies!

Oh, wow, what a great link! Thanks so much. LOVE the billboard about the beef! Ha ha!! What humor.

I've printed out the beef billboard photo and have pasted it onto some scrapbook stockboard paper and we're going to use it as a bookmark! Ha ha! Wait until my li'l Sharpie sees this! I'm not going to tell him it's in the book.

What a great idea! I think I'll do that, too, for myself. It's such a fun billboard, lol!

Allright Im game to give it a try. Went to library yesterday and borrowed the 1st 3 books. I started Sharpes Tiger yesterday. Will try to keep up with the weekly assignment, but I get bored easily when I read too much of the same thing, not sure if I will make it through all of them. I am willing to give it the ole British try, though

Hey, that's fantastic! To tell you the truth, I'm not quite keeping up myself, so there will be no punishments meted out for those who don't keep up. We want this to be fun! I understand about the getting bored part, so read as much as you want to, my dear -- and welcome to the ranks!
