We are looking for the Chosen few who would join the ranks of die hard SharpeFans Soldiers. Those who join this elite company shall be encouraged to read 11 books in 11 weeks to coincide with the release of the latest account of Sharpe's adventures. You will have your library as a Stock pile and or your local bookstores both new and old.
Put your mark on the line if you so choose to join and you will receive further orders shortly.
Here is a wee bit of our marching song.
There's forty shillings on the drum
To those who volunteer to come,
To read Sharpe’s Rifles everyday
Over the Hills and far away.
O'er the hills and o'er the main
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain.
King George commands and we obey,
Over the hills and far away.
For those who wish to accept Sharpe's challenge, here is a chronological list of the novels, that will help you organize your journey through India, Portugal and Spain. The newest book comes out in September, so it will be a challenge indeed, but a fun one! Even if you don't have all the books, or can't get them easily, I hope you will consider joining us! Even I don't have all the books on hand, but I know where they are at the library, so I'm all set, locked and loaded and ready to go!

Beggin the Generals pardon
Date: 2006-06-21 04:03 pm (UTC)From:Said Inspection to be held by General Grenawalt, a time set at the Generals lesiure.
This of course sets the Campaign Timetable off a week, but still acceptable for our purpose.
All in favor and with the General's blessings, say Aye!

It was the logical thing to do so I heard Ma'am.
I was also honored by a promotion to Sargeant Tharp
but Sargeant Hakeswill still calls me Tharpie. The man has no respect nor does he deserve any.
July 1st is just the following weekend. Time flys so it does.
I am using my Marker that the Gerenal was so kind to give me, that originated from India, as it were, to mark my progress.
By your leave,
Sgt. Tharp

Date: 2006-06-23 01:24 pm (UTC)From:Have you seen any of the Sharpe televised episodes, starring Sean Bean as Richard Sharpe, a British soldier fighting in the Napoleonic Wars? Most of episodes are based on the books, starting with Sharpe's Rifles -- though there are usually differences between the books and the films. But the books are worth reading on their own, and that's what we want to do as a group. There is a new Sharpe book coming out in September, and our worthy goal is to read through the books in chronological order in time to be ready for that book when it comes out.
The books are by Bernard Cornwell, and most libraries have at least some of them, and most bookstores. We plan to start reading them by July 1 -- the first one being Sharpe's Tiger, which takes place in India. (This is the first chronologically, though not the first published.) It happens to be my favorite. I have it on audio tape as well, with Sean Bean reading it, eee! :-D
Here's a link to the author's site, if you want to check it out:

The DVD's begin with Sharpe's Rifles. I'll see if I can find a better ordered list and post it for you.
Yay for more Sharpies!
