linaewen: (Spices by wizzicons)
Masala is a word in Urdu that means a mixture of spices, but it is also used when referring to any kind of mixture -- so in a sense, a loose translation of it could be "hodge podge." And that's what this journal entry will be, a hodge podge of things that I've been meaning to mention -- as well as an excuse to use this really scrumptious icon! :-D

BTW, the spices in the icon are all spices used in a mixture called "garm masala" which translates as "hot spice" -- an essential ingredient in most Pakistani and Indian curries.   My mouth is watering just thinking about ti!

Anyway, on to the hodge podge....

- Birthday -- we're having one final birthday bash today, with cake and everything, because my son went all out on a gift for me -- which got lost in transit and had to be reordered -- which should arrive today, and he's so excited about the surprise, he wants to do it up proper. So we will!

- Leg -- my leg injury is improving. The lump is almost gone, as is the bruising, but I am still dealing with an itchy rash that developed from using arnica gel on it, and my foot still swells quite a bit by the end of the day (though it does better if I don't sit around too much and if I wear a closed shoe). But it's definitely on the mend, yay!

- Weather -- typical Wisconsin. Hot and humid one minute, cool and rainy (and humid) another minute. Right now I'm sitting at the computer in from of a window fan and I'm freezing!! I better get my walk in before it rains again...

- Cleaning -- got my desk cleaned yesterday, and found some things I'd been looking for! I've a mind to clean some other flat surfaces today and see what else I unearth.

- List of Doom -- my burdensome list is growing longer, because I'm not spending enough time whittling away at it, so things get added, but not deleted. In order to deal with it, I'm considering taking some days where I stay off the computer and concentrate on non-computer jobs that really need doing. That will be an interesting test of my will power! More on that later.

- Photos -- I have lots of photos to share, but I'll just do one or two here, from my birthday trip to the Arboretum.

MARSH WETLAND...

OAK SAVANNAH...

NOT SURE WHAT KIND OF TREE THIS IS, BUT IT SMELLED MARVELOUS, LIKE WHITE LILACS...

Guess that's enough masala for one day!

First of all you are making me hungry!

Very close to my sister's house is my favorite vegetarian Indian restaurant where they make the best Dosai (sp?) I have ever had! I haven't tried nearly all they have to offer yet, but their prices are so reasonable that it would be less expensive to buy an order of Dosai (four lunches, easy) than to make my own food from scratch. I figure I can go there for dinner once a week and take out my lunches for the rest of the week. So I am looking forward to delicious, healthy Indian fare often! Hurray!!!

garm masala... *drools excessively*

All three of the photos from your birthday trip are gorgeous, but that tree would draw me like a magnet. There are just some trees that do that, you know?

LOL, I am glad the birthday celebrations continue. It's sweet that your DS wants to do it up right for you!

I'm happy that your leg is showing such improvement!

I am kinda scared about what might be under my stacks of papers, some of which got shoved into boxes when I moved without being sorted. *ack* It's going to feel very good when I do some serious purging of junk! I hope your list of doom sees some checkmarks soon.

It's a dangerous thing, sorting through papers! I always find something that should have been done a long time ago, and now it's too late. Then, of course, I panic and have major guilt. But the feeling of satisfaction that it's done and behind me will defeat that guilt!

You are right about that tree -- it was like a magnet! There were a lot of this kind throughout the garden part of the Aboretum, but that one was the biggest and nicest of the bunch.

These pics are beautiful!

I can almost imagine what the rest would be like! If you make it into the woods section, post piccies!

Glad your foot/leg is doing a bit better. Hopefully it keeps on getting better.

I *love* your panic icon!!!!

Enjoy your birthday bash! The more parties the better. what a good son you have!

Thank you for looking and commenting,my dear!! I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures, they turned out really well, didn't they? The place is beautiful! I have more, and plan to go back and take more sometime, so I'll be sure to post them.

The birthday bash wasn't exactly a bash, but we had some lovely cake and my son got me TWO seasons of Star Trek Deep Space Nine on DVD! Yay!

Thanks for stopping by, my friend!

I have had a good birthday week! I think I still have one package outstanding, so maybe I'll hang on a bit longer. There's still cake left, too, so as long as there's cake, it's my birthday, lol!

found them :) your wetland looks much like ours up here, and not at all like miami wetlands... so hence no gators heeh.

and i agree, that tree would be like a magnet, especially if the odor coming off it were pleasant and noticable.

Nope, no gators, thankfully!

I need to do some research on what kind of tree that was. Wish I were like my dad who knows all about identifying trees! He tried to teach me, but it didn't stick. Maybe it will now. ;-)

Thanks for looking! Hope your day goes well today!
