Big Boots, phrasal noun: 1 the Footwear necessary for Enterprise and Excitement. 2 any article of clothing that is only worn when things begin to get quite exciting.
Adventure, noun: any event or happening that requires Fortitude and Footwear. Smaller Animals may require Provisions* and , certainly, a Smackerel* or two.
Today is my last day to get together my Provisions and Smackerels for our Adventure... er, trip out east to the conference we will be atttending. Packing is always a major chore for me, in spite of having had to do it so much and so often in the course of my adventurous life -- if I can get past the part of collecting Provisions with relative calm, the rest of the Adventure should be Exciting.
So, I'm going to be putting my Big Boots on and wading in to it with Determination, not to mention Enterprise. And to make sure I do a really Heroic of job of it, I'm going to be putting on these Big Boots:
We leave tomorrow morning and won't be back for about 10 days, though I expect you will see me checking in at intervals, as long as there is an internet connection handy somewhere.
Sharpe's Challenge alert: For those who get BBC America, here's the scoop:
Christopher Robin was sitting outside his door, putting on his Big Boots. As soo as he saw the Big Boots, Pooh knew that an Adventure was going to happen, and he brushed the honey off his nose with the back of his paw, and spirced himself up as well as he could, so as to look Ready for Anything.

And now, because I was tagged by
boriel, here is the 8 Facts about Me meme.
Once you have been tagged, you have to write a post with 8 facts/things/habits about yourself and say who tagged you. In the end, you will need to choose the 6 people you tag and list their names. No tag backs.
1. I had hepatitis when I was in 2nd grade (caught it from a classmate who got sick from drinking bad water after a flood) -- I couldn't bear to eat chocolate for years after that. I got over it, though. ;-)
2. I cannot leave the house without checking to be sure I have my asthma inhaler in my pocket or purse -- even when I KNOW I have just put it in moments before. Sometimes I have to check twice. It is a frightening thing to be without it!
3. It's been 3 years since we left Pakistan, but I still sometimes find myself unable to think of a word in English; particularly when the Urdu word seems to be a better fit for what I want to say.
4. I spent two weeks in Mexico studying at a small college, and got two credits for it, the equivalent of a full semester, which allowed me to graduate on time from university with a major in Spanish. I also had a major in French, but never got to spend any time in a French-speaking country. I can still read both with understanding, but can't speak to save my life -- the minute I open my mouth to speak a foreign language, only Urdu comes out!
5. I am not afraid of snakes, mice, or rats, though I will jump if they startle me by appearing suddenly. That doesn't mean I don't try to get rid of them if they are in the house, however. I could tell you some rat stories from my time in Pakistan... but I will spare you. Let's just say, Boromir would have been proud of the way I wielded a hockey stick!
6. I often go an entire meal without drinking, even though I have water poured -- it is a habit I picked up in Pakistan when we used to be thrifty with our boiled water when traveling. Now we still forget to drink, even when we have water aplenty.
7. My heritage is 1/4 each Scots, Welsh, Norwegian, and Swedish -- my maternal grandmother and my paternal grandfather did not come to the US until they were young adults.
8. I love having my hubby or son help me with the laundry -- but I draw the line at hanging things on the clothesline. I am very picky about how clothes are hung up and what kind of pins/pegs should be used for what items of clothing. I will go back and redo it if the clothes aren't hung to my liking.
I'm not sure who has been tagged and who hasn't, so I am going to tag any 6 people who haven't yet been tagged and want to do this Meme.

I think with those particular Boots the packing of Provisions and Smackerels (hee)should progress swimmingly! Best of luck with it!

Date: 2006-08-11 04:03 pm (UTC)From:When we used to read Milne to each other there were certain parts we had to pass back and forth because we couldn't get through it without laughing so hard we cried. Just imagining a part that was coming up we would start in. The best one was Piglet running and shouting "Hep Hep A Heffable Horrilump!" or somthing like that.
*eyes watering already* There I go again, hehe!
