My hubby and I have a game we play when we are traveling -- we look for the most dilapidated old house or barn we can see from the road, and say "my dream home!" The one spotting the best "fixer upper" wins the game.
Interestingly enough, we are going to be looking for dream homes for real today -- we've been preapproved for a loan and we're signing up with an agent, and hopefully before Christmas we'll be in our own fixer upper. That kind of place is actually a dream home to my hubby -- he's never happy unless there is a fixing project on hand. I don't technically have a specific kind of dream home in mind -- in Pakistan, I have lived in everything from a large one room "shack" to a huge marble-floored mahal -- so I'm flexible about where I live.
Just as long as it needs less work than this:

I'll have to find me a nice "old house" icon to use when I am talking about the hunt for the "Lin Dream Home." :-D
In other news, hubby and I are still under the weather, but hanging in there. I have been sleeping on the couch, due to coughing, and last night I actually got enough rest, I think. In spite of coughing! I have a lot going on today, so I may have to cancel out on some of it if I am too worn down by the end of the day, but we'll see how it goes. This will be the first day I have ventured forth in a week, after getting sick.
It's a beautiful cool fall day for venturing forth, I might add! I hope we get a house with a big tree in the yard -- I like the ones that turn golden yellow in the fall, but red is nice, too. ;-)

Date: 2006-09-20 02:02 pm (UTC)From:Congratulations on getting your loan approval and going ahead with an agent! That is very exciting! Although I am a little worried about you having such a full day today. I am glad you plan to scale back if you begin to feel worn down.
*hugs*
A good tree is very important.

Have fun with your house-hunting!

Date: 2006-09-20 02:58 pm (UTC)From:Glad you are feeling better, and I am excited about the house with you! I think there are all sorts of fun games we play. This is a fairly modest neighborhood and those who have lived here a while have seen a good property value increase, in the double to triple range or more. So a few have bought small cabins 'up north'. I said that I am building 'up north' too - lots of windows, a fireplace. The new porch is on the north side of the house, after all.. and hey, its a shorter commute :D

Date: 2006-09-21 01:25 am (UTC)From:It is quite fun looking for a house. It was weird today, I had to remind myself that it was okay to look in all the cupboards of the mostly empty house we were looking at -- because I'm really a buyer now, not just browsing.

Date: 2006-09-21 01:13 am (UTC)From:I was pretty worn out after our house hunting, so I took a long nap and didn't go out this evening to a church doings. I am relaxing, and hopefully going to get some writing done instead!
