linaewen: (House Charleston by Auth. Hist. Designs)
Well, after much consideration and talking round and round, we decided on the house I talked about in a previous post, the one on Benton Avenue  -- close inspection of the other house left us wondering if we would ever be free of maintenance issues.  We have big plans for converting the basement (one of the dryest, brightest basements I've ever seen in a house) into a family room, which should give us enough room so that everyone wanting to be alone to write or think will be able to find a quiet place.  We are all pretty excited!

We spent the afternoon signing papers, and so the process has begun.  We could know as early as tomorrow whether the seller accepts our offer.  If all goes well, we hope to close by November 1 -- earlier if things go extremely well.  That should give us time to do some painting and refinishing the hardwood floors before we move in.  We'll also be able to start moving things out of our apartment in stages, once we close, storing things in the garage until we are ready to set up.  A perfect arrangement -- as long as I get cracking on the packing!!

We do know that we are the only ones offering on this house at the current time, so hopefully no one else will want our wee little bungalow until it's too late.  I'll keep you posted, whether you want to keep hearing about Lin Mahal or not, hee!

Thanks! It has all gone so smoothly, I feel quite confident -- and knowing there are prayers going up on our behalf makes me more so!

Lin Mahal! I love it!
*prays that all goes well*

If it goes according to plan, you can be settled in by Christmas! If you do, you might consider having a live Christmas tree that you can then plant in your yard; that's what we did our first Christmas in this house, and the tree is soooo big now. (But that might not work in the North Country, come to think of it; your nursery could tell you.)

*hugs and brownies*

I'm excited about being in the house by Christmas! We'll be lucky if we can see the yard for the snow come Christmas, but that's an idea -- I would like some kind of evergreen in the yard, it currently doesn't have anything like that.

The Lin Mahal indeed! *bounces in chair* This is wonderful news!

I am sure it will progress smoothly (sending prayers)

What fun to have a nice bright dry basement that won't take a ton of work to convert to living space!

I can't wait to hear what happens! *more bouncing*

DH has his home improvement books out and is already planning. ;-) DS has already announced that the basement will be his domain, lol!

Congratulations! I hope this is it! It is a buyer's market, so hopefully they'll be thrilled to get an offer.

Thanks! We hope, too, that our offer will be acceptable -- they do give the impression that they are eager to get this house off their hands.

Ooooo, new default icon! I like this one, and the phrase is really meaningful!

Thanks for the prayers, we are pretty excited about it -- hopefully that excitment will give me extra energy for packing. ;-)

I am just playing "catch up" with everything here on LJ so I hadn't realized you were houseshopping until now. What a wonderful place it looks to be, very homelike and cozy but not too small. The yard looks well kept too, I hope they maintained the house along with it. How very exciting! Waiting to hear the good news on the offer I do hope. ((((Lin))))

I'm thinking of doing a post about it at the Pony when we know it's a sure thing.

It's actually only been about a month since we first decided we'd rather buy than rent, so it's been a whirlwind of a month! But it seems right, and will be good for us all to have a more permanent place that we can call our own, no matter where we go from here.

Well congrats are in order and my full sympathy to you and your family, now that the packing and moving process begins. Of course if you can move from Pakistan to the US you can move to the oter side of town without too many struggles.

The house is adorable and I am sure you are happy to be homeowners.
