Day Off Zindabad
Mar. 18th, 2004 03:54 pmIn Pakistan the word Zindabad literally means "live forever." It is a kind of blessing, especially when used with a person's name. "Pakistan zindabad" is an oft heard slogan.
But it is also used sarcastically to mean exactly the opposite, when something goes wrong, or a corrupt official acts according to form, we say "---- zindabad!"
As in "Day Off Zindabad."
Funny how days off from the office never really are days off. I always think I'm going to have time to myself to write or whatever, but it always turns out to be laundry and cooking and getting ready for guests to the guest house and emails from work that can't wait and interruptions, etc.
Just thought I'd complain a bit before getting back to work!
And I'm also experimenting to see how my mood icon works. :D
