My mom used to always say, "another country heard from!" when I had been quiet for too long, and then came out of solitude to contribute.  Looks like I haven't contributed much on this side of my journal lately, so I thought it was high time you heard from this part of the country!

My last update had to do with coming down with shingles.  (see here if you missed it, it was awhile ago!  http://lin4gondor.livejournal.com/275566.html)  What with the shingles and a bad cold on top of it, I was pretty much out of commission for three weeks, and it took me a bit more to get all my energy back. I'm feeling myself again, finally, but catching up with everything that got set aside while I was feeling unwell is proving to be a bit of a nuisance. But everyone is understanding, so that's good!

I'm been plagued with a cough that won't quit, ever since then, though -- so I had it checked out on Monday. My regular doc wasn't in, but his substitute told me that my shingles probably messed with my immune system and that I was having trouble with bronchial asthma again. So he put me on an antibiotic and prednisone for 5 days -- we'll see how it goes. I am still coughing, but I do notice improvement, so hopefully by Friday that cough will be gone. It's very irritating, not just to me, but to the DH, as well. So we'll both be happy if that cough finally quits!

Things are bustling here in Chicago as the weather warms up.  We have lots of people passing through our Center who are interested in learning English and getting help studying for their citizenship exams.  I have a couple of Pakistani women I am getting close to who are studying for that -- it's a good way for them to brush up on their English, and good way for me to help them via Urdu when they don't understand a concept.  I'm actually the director of ESL here, but I've been a bit of a failure at that this semester as I was sick for so long and am also limited by not having quite enough volunteers to help teach the people who are interested in lessons.  I learned early on that I can only handle so many students myself, so I'm not going to teach more than I can manage.  If there are no other volunteers, then there will be no lessons!  It will work out, if not now, then later.

I'm not getting much writing in these days -- the desire is there, but the mind seems to be blank.  I think I need to perhaps schedule my days better, and set aside time that is just for writing -- and try some of those tricks like writing a certain number of words daily, even if it doesn't amount to much that is sensible.  I have a feeling that just a little bit of effort would break through the barrier and then I'd be back on track.

Speaking of getting track, I see it almost time for me to be heading out the door for my first lesson of the day -- and I don't have my papers together!  So this much of an update will have to suffice.  Hopefully, I'll do better after this at keeping my dear ones informed of how I am doing!

Have a good day, everyone!  Hope it is as nice where you are as it is here in Chicago!
