My BP is high, and I can tell. I feel just "off" enough that it is bothersome. I checked my own BP thingy against the one at Walmart and they agree = 148/95.

Now it could be worse, I know, but that's bad enough, especially when I am already taking medication for it. I'm sure it has much to do with what is going on in my life these days, and when that passes, I hope I will settle. If it is no better after the weekend, I'll go to the doctor.

Though the weekend will likely make it worse; it will be Grand Central Station at the guesthouse, starting tomorrow and going through the weekend.

To cope with the difficulty, I need to get more exercise, as that will reduce the stress as well as help with my BP in the long run; I'll try drinking more as well, and see if I can cut back on coffee. If anyone knows of anymore "tricks" that might help in the short term, let me know!

Does athelas tea have caffeine in it?

Try this....

Sit in a chair in a dark, quiet room. Close your eyes. Take deep lungfuls of air slowly, then exhale slowly. Think of something that makes you calm, but happy. Like Boromir...no wait, that might make your heart race! Try a deep forest in the early morning. Put yourself there. Hear the noises of the forest around you. Continue to breath deeply. Try this everytime you have a free moment. You BP will go down, I guarantee. Meditation is very good for the soul.

Love you sweetie.

LOL to the Boromir idea! Thanks for the idea; I'm going to put on some deep foresty kind of music here at the office and maybe that will help me get started. One thing that does help is using your little pillow (straight out of the freezer) on the back of my neck. The smell of it is also relaxing!

for what it is worth,
after my stay in the hospitial, due to stress, the cardiologist said walk 30 minutes everyday. Three things happen, stress level goes down, BP goes down, Weight goes down...stop me when you see a bad thing here...oh yeah mood gets better too.. you HAVE to set aside 30 minutes for yourself and those you love or you will crash like i did and that helps no one.

Still here, Still Praying,
Ada

Thanks

I will do that; there are some good places to walk nearby, and the weather is fine -- and I know I need to do something like this, for my stress, my Bp, my weight and my mood; my sedentary job is catching up with me, I guess.

ROTFL.....drinking what? hehe.

ideas?

limit to one cup of coffee a day - no more. and make that stick!

if you do things like salt the water before you boil your potatoes etc, quit doing it...either that or quit salting your food once its on the plate (my mom is really bad for that - double salts everything even before we get to taste it for ourselves.) Try using Sea Salt instead. Its rougher coarser texture, you use waaaay less too.

while you are sitting doing things (like paperwork) wiggle your feet, tap your toes etc. If you move even while stationary, it actually DOES burn up calories. (just ask my uncle who is a beanpole and cant keep any meat on his bones - he cannot sit still for more than 5 seconds without fidgiting.)

set an alarm or timer (watch is best) to go off every hour. when it goes off - spend 1 minute doing something else: stretching, deep breathing, toe touching, praying, standing or sitting up straight again, or drop and do 3 situps or 3 lady pushups.

::: in best viggo/masterchief voice::: 'drop and give me 5 lady! LOL.

Yes, I've been bad with caffeine of late *surreptitiously slides the Dr. Pepper she is drinking behind a stack of papers* and my salt intake needs drastic measures taken. And I am realizing that I do a lot of sitting with this work and need to MOVE more.

Great suggestions, thanks!

I was going to suggest watching salt. I know I need to. Salt spikes my blood pressure like nothing else. That's what's bad about most soft drinks (I'm a Cokeaholic myself), it's not just the caffeine, it's also the high sodium content.

And any exercise, especially walking, brings BP right down too, drastically.

I'm on two BP medications, and that just keeps my BP at the higher end of the normal limit, so I know what you are going through.

My poor sweetie! I'd tell you to take it easy, but I know if you could, you would be. It must be stressful, always having people coming and going on a moment's notice. It would drive me nuts, personally - I need lots of personal space. (((Hugs Lin))))
