We've been getting our furnace tuned up for the winter, and ran into some problems with it, so the fix-it man is here. It's an old oil-burning thing -- the furnace, that is; not the fix-it man! We had considered switching to a gas furnace, but at this time, we can't quite afford getting rid of a furnace that works pretty well to exchange it for a new one, no matter how efficient gas is.
It is running now, but not before I was almost driven outside from the visible smoke and noxious fumes of unburned oil billowing up out of all the vents! Funny, it kind of made me feel nostalgic, reminding me of the smell of the old kerosene heaters we used to burn when we lived overseas, which was our only form of heat.
But not nostalgic enough to want to smell oily fumes all day! Ick!
