linaewen: (Autumn by the Lake by wizzicons)
I have to look at the calendar these days to convince myself it's really heading for the end of October -- and we are still having higher than average temperatures here!  This is a good thing in some ways, because we are still getting produce from our garden.  Tomatoes and broccoli galore!  Also, our furnace STILL does not work, even after having been fixed 3 times (twice by the repairman and once by the hubby).  The repairman is coming again on Monday, but if he tries to scalp us again for parts, I think DH is going to say "forget it" and replace the thing with a gas furnace.  We'll see!  At any rate, the longer it stays warmish outside, the better for not being cold in the house.

But autumn is my favorite time of the year, and it's just not crisp and cool enough out there for it to count as autumn yet!!!  *sigh*  And where are the fall colors?  Our maple trees -- which should be blinding us with their vivid yellow (or orange?) color -- are still as green as if spring had just sprung.  Our catalpa trees haven't changed either, except to go from a dark green to a lighter green.  We do have fallen leaves all over the yard, just not colored ones.  And I think they are actually leaves that have blown in from from other people's yards.  :-/

We're actually not totally sure what color our trees SHOULD be, come to think of it.  We bought the house last October, and the leaves were already down for the most part.  So that's part of my being irritated -- I don't want to wait another year to see what glorious colors will be waving above me when I step out of my house on an autumn day.  ;-)

Ah, well.  No matter.  I shall try to be patient.  I still have great hopes for our very green maple trees, because I think it will cool down after this and be real autumn weather.  Hopefully it won't rain for the rest of the month!  This weekend is going to be lovely, for all that it won't be crisp and cool -- it will still be great for getting outside and doing fun things without having to wear a coat!  We are planning a hike in the local arboretum this afternoon.  Maybe there will be some fall colors there!

In other news, I'm feeling quite gleeful at getting some major RW projects done this past week.  Those projects were keeping me from working on other more fun projects -- like writing and posting in my LJ.  ;-)  As long as the hubby doesn't get too excited about the nice weather and want to be outside 24/7 doing stuff, I should be free to have some time to myself this weekend.

Which is always nice.

There comes a point when repairs are just too much, and replacement is a better option. If a gas furnace is too much for now, you might look into portable electric heaters for each room. Oh, and if you do go with gas, you might need humidifiers in your bedrooms.

Weather/harvest = Rom. 8:28!

I wore a jacket for the first time this morning at 7:30. Hurray for cooler mornings! Still quite warm in the afternoons, but it's a step.

Have a lovely time, and a lovely day!

*hugs*

We did have a lovely day, and a lovely walk. Today is just as nice, so maybe we can do it again, after church.

The furnace is running now, but it's not quite right. Hubby worked on it and now isn't sure what to do about calling in the repair guy. We've left it a bit late to switch to gas this year, but we might still be able to swing it. :-D

Autumn is taking his sweet time here in KS, too. I think that one day there'll be a frost, the leaves will all turn in an hour and fall off at the same time with a *thud!* lol!

Still, it's hard to complain when it is so beautifully cool and sunny!

I think autumn is giving everyone a skip, or pretending to be spring or something. I shall have to be content, I guess! I do like raking leaves, though, so whatever happens, I'll get to do that, lol!

It's currently about 65-70 degrees here, but the sky is blue, their is a slight breeze in the air. It feels wonderful. I am happy, I love spring type weather, which is exactly what we're having.

Hope you get the furnace thing fixed soon, before winter in WI hits, which I understand can be brutal.

Hope to see you around more.

It is a lot like spring!

The furnace is running now, but it's not quite right. It this warm weather keeps up we may have time to work on it more before we really need it. Winters around here definitely require a working furnace!

*hugs you* I do hope to be around more, with posting as well as commenting! Hope the new job is going all right so far.
