Oooo, something to look forward to this weekend -- NOT!  Here's the news from a recently posted Severe Weather Alert:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING...SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP SATURDAY MORNING ACROSS SOUTHERN WISCONSIN AND BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES BY AFTERNOON.

THE PRECIPITATION IS THEN EXPECTED TO MIX WITH...THEN CHANGE TO SLEET BY LATE AFTERNOON AND THEN TO FREEZING RAIN BY EARLY EVENING FROM SOUTH TO NORTH.

A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF ICE COULD ACCUMULATE ON TOP OF THE SNOW BY LATE SATURDAY NIGHT. CURRENT INDICATIONS SHOW WIDESPREAD ACCUMULATIONS OF ICE TOTALING ONE QUARTER TO ONE THIRD OF AN INCH WILL FALL ON TOP OF THE SNOW... WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE.

TRAVEL CONDITIONS WILL DETERIORATE QUICKLY WITH THE ONSET OF THE ACCUMULATING SNOW...AND MAY BECOME NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE WITH THE FREEZING RAIN DURING THE EVENING.

ICE ACCUMULATIONS SUCH AS THESE MAY CAUSE CONSIDERABLE TREE AND POWER LINE DAMAGE WITH WIDESPREAD POWER OUTAGES. IN ADDITION...SOUTHEAST WINDS GUSTING TO 30 MPH WILL FURTHER STRESS ICE- LADEN STRUCTURES. ICE ACCUMULATIONS WOULD LIKELY BE HIGHEST AWAY FROM THE WARMER SHORES OF LAKE MICHIGAN. NOW IS THE TIME TO PREPARE FOR POSSIBLE POWER OUTAGES.

It's possibilities like this that make one wonder why just about everything we own for cooking or heating is powered by electricity?

*is thankful for a gas fireplace but prays there will be no power outages*

Oh the fun to be had! LOL, well, I hope you are well stocked and ready to hole up for awhile. I'll add my prayers to the mix asking for no power outages so the hole is a happy hole, lol.

We are doing well so far, keeping warm with nice hot cocoa and warming soup. ;-) The ice is coating everything outside, but we are toasty inside.

Oh, do be careful, dear friend!

*hugs and warm thoughts*

We are keeping warm and safe. Not sure what will happen with church tomorrow, I suspect it will be cancelled. Things should improve sometime tomorrow, but the ice is pretty impressive-looking at the moment!

Oh, I hope the power doesn't go out! That would be miserable for you. I don't know what I would do if something like that happened to me. Stay home and bundle up by that gas fireplace with a good book. :)

We haven't been tested as yet, thankfully. The power remains on, even though there is a pretty good coating of ice out there on everything! We've definitely been enjoying our fireplace. ;-)

Looks like some of the LIST of yours will be exclusivly Indoor chores this weekend.

I hope your power stays on. These are the times when I wonder why everyhome is not hooked up to a portable generator. We only need them seldom, or not at all, but when we do.....yup!

Mayhap it is a good day for hot cococa and Movies...oh yeah, that electric thang again, well there is always reading and writing.

No loss of power so far, so that is a blessing. It's not very nice out there at the moment, but it could be worse! I had a nice indoors kind of day, and hot cocoa was enjoyed by all, several times over. ;-)

Brrr....

A lot of people in Maine have generators because in some of the more remote places, you can be without power for a while.

*hopes for no outage for you*

We used to have a generator in Pakistan, and since we cooked with bottled gas, we usually managed pretty well. So far, no problems with the power here, though it's kind of ugly out there. Nice freezing rain falling at the moment, and everything is coated with ice. I bet they cancel church tomorrow!

We bought a decent-sized generator after the October Storm last year. It can run our furnace (which we had switched to plug-in, our sump pump and the fridge. Sincerely hoping we WON'T be needing it again this year!

Hope your power survived the storm.

So far so good. Ice is coating everything, and it's still raining and freezing. No problem with the power so far, but I bet we'll see some downed tree branches before the night is over.
