linaewen: (Star Trek Yay by stargater)
Here's a fun meme that some on my Flist are doing.

Comment and I'll give you a letter; then you have to list 10 things you love -- or if not love, then LIKE -- that begin with that letter. Afterwards, post this in your journal and give out some letters of your own.

[personal profile] juno_magic gave me the letter

...Y!

I thought I would have some trouble with that one, but once I got going, I had more than enough to fit the bill. Yay!

1. Yahweh -- I love this word because it's a name for God, meaning I Am or the One who is existing, and I believe in that and in Him! :-) There is also a nifty song by U2 with the same name. The lyrics are here: Yahweh

2. y'all -- This word is a contraction of you all, which I picked up living in the south for a couple of years. It's one of the most useful words I know because it's such a friendly way of addressing more than one person.

3. yellow -- A favorite color of mine, the color of daffodils, which signify spring for me, above all other things. And I can hardly wait for spring right now, I'm getting weary of snow. ;-)

4. yard -- I love my yard. I actually have one that belongs to me, and it's a nice size, too -- not too big and not too small. When spring comes, it will be filled with flowers and green grass. Right now, it is full of snow, but there is a bird feeder in the middle of it, and we had a woodpecker at it today, which almost makes up for no flowers yet, lol!

5. yam -- I love vegetables, and this is one of my favorites, and very good for me, too, if I go easy on the butter.

6. yolk -- Some people don't like the yolk of an egg, but I'm fond of them, especially hard boiled. Yum!

7. yogurt -- Yogurt is lovely, I like mine plain and unflavored. If I want to fancy it up, I don't prefer it sweet, I like to make raita, instead. Raita is a Pakistani side dish that goes well with a spicy curry. Here's a good recipe: Cucumber Raita

8. Yule -- The Christmas season is most definitely a favorite time of the year!

9. Yahtzee -- I have always enjoyed this game, whether playing it with real dice, or online. Here is an amazingly detailed Wikipedia article about the game, if you aren't familiar with it: Yahtzee

10. Ynys Môn -- This is the Welsh name for the island of Anglesey, located off the northwest coast of Wales. It is a fascinating place historically, but I love it because it's where my great-grandfather was born and raised. Some day I would like to visit Wales and I shall certainly go to
Ynys Môn.

And because I couldn't stop at ten, here are some bonus things I love/like.

11. Yôzâyan -- This word is from Tolkien; it is the land of
Númenor, in the Adûnaic language (the native tongue of the Men of Númenor). It translates as 'Land of Gift.' I've always been very taken with all things Númenorean!

12. yakhni -- This is an Urdu word which means a gravy or sauce, and usually refers a thick spicy gravy, though it can also refer to a thinner soup. Here's a nice recipe for a rice dish called Yakhni Pulao.

13. Yaum-e-Azadi -- This is an Urdu phrase which means Day of Independence. It is an important national holiday in Pakistan, celebrated on August 14, as the day on which Pakistan became independent of British rule. For more, check out this article: Yaum-e-Azadi

And one more, so I don't end up with an "unlucky" number of thirteen -- not that I'm superstitious or anything! ;-)

14. Yay! -- One of my favorite exclamations of pleasure, approval, elation or victory --
and a good way to end a fun meme!

Oh, neat! You found some great words for "Y," Lin. You can give me a letter, if you want, and I'll post my words tomorrow.

and if bono liked a city and the fans and had a good gig, he'd change the lyrics at the end, and add::: take this heart, take this heart, take this 'city's' heart and keep it safe. (loved it).

and yougurt and yams, yay! give me a letter darling!

Oooh, that's a great way to end the song, making it personal and prayerful!

Okay, your letter is D.

Oh, you came up with some wonderful words! 'Y' is a hard letter, at least I thought it would be. I love Yahtzee and I had a wonderful computer game with different fun versions of it but it won't play on this newer computer. *sniff*

Yahweh is one of my favorite names for God, too. When I hear it I always think of a song I used to sing years and years ago. I can't remember the name of it anymore, just part of the chorus. :)

I think I know what song you are talking about, I can't remember it much either, just that it was such fun to sing.

I think I have that same Yahtzee computer game. Alas that it doesn't play -- sometimes the old games are the best.

Yellow is my favorite color, too! And I love unsweetened yogurt! Yummy! Although I just tried some Greek style sweetened with honey that was quite nice. They put too much in so it was way too sweet, but I love honey. I thought if I am craving a sweet treat I might drizzle a little honey on plain yogurt. I suppose that would work with maple syrup as well. *ponders*

Thanks for the recipes!
