I had the best day on Thursday! Not only did I have an adventure riding the train all by myself, but I got to meet
hapendfro face to face and it was such fun!
The adventure on the train was of the kind where you do something on your own that is fun and interesting, not the kind that is upsetting or worrisome. ;-) I am often cautious about doing something new, so when I have the opportunity, I like to "practice" before I procede on my own. Last weekend, I had the opportunity to travel with my DH on the bus and the elevated train/subway here in Chicago, so I was able to watch how it was done. On Thursday, I did it on my own, and it was easy! So I enjoyed my trip very much. I'm still not good at figuring out which direction to walk after I get out of the station downtown; one gets so turned around coming up from below! But basically you just walk until you recognize a street, and then adjust to go in the direction you want.
Lynda and I had a lovely, lovely time together. We didn't have too much trouble finding each other -- I called ahead to say I was almost there, and so she was waiting expectantly for anyone not wearing a Terminus name tag. I got the best hug from her when we met, and it got better from there. We pretty much just talked a blue streak for about three hours, before she had to go to her opening conference session. I got another one or two of those great hugs when we parted. ;-)
I'm so grateful for the opportunity to meet her, it really makes such a difference to an online relationship to be able to meet and talk face to face, even if it's only for a short time. I do hope she can manage more visits to Chicago in the future, it would be great to see her again!
If anyone else happens to be in Chicago sometime, and wants to meet, let me know! Let's see what we can work out for a visit. The more people I can meet face to face, the better. :-D
In other news, I'm getting ready to go on a trip to a conference in New Jersey. A friend is dropping us off at the nearest station so we can take the train into O'Hare -- our flight leaves at 6:30 am! That will be an adventure, too, but it should go smoothly. Thankfully, we got hooked up to the internet in time to be able to do early check in and print our boarding passes, so we are all set. I have managed to get all my week's worth of clothing into one carry on bag(I think I can still lift it!), and I have a decent purse for carrying all the other stuff -- writing notes, a paperback copy of RotK, really important stuff like that. Oh, yes, and my wallet. :-D
We are also taking our laptop, so I shouldn't be too scarce during that week. They have a good internet setup at the conference center we are going to -- when it works. ;-)
