linaewen: (The Cheese of Narsil from boz4pm)
We really like living in Chicago, but we still have to check in with Wisconsin every once in awhile, just for comfort.  ;-)   So we are heading up north for a very short visit to the old homestead.  The border is only an hour and a half away, and the homestead another half hour after that, so it's not a long trip, thankfully.

It sounds like DS could really use his mom around for a day or two, to help him get caught up with some household things.  He's been working full time at McD's with only a handful of days off -- the 5 am to 1 pm schedule, which is nice for leaving him some time to do things during the day after work, but also leaves him worn out.  He's not getting enough sleep, I fear.  He is "wired" in such a way that he needs several hours of lead time in order to be fully awake and alert to work, so he needs to get up at least 2 1/2 hours ahead of time -- which means he's getting up as early as 2:30 am to get to work at 5 am!!

I can't help him get more sleep, but maybe I can take care of some of the things he's not been able to get to this week because of a particularly strenuous work schedule.  It's maybe not really helping his independence much for me to go help him out like that, but I care not!  :-D  It's Mom to the rescue time.  ;-)

Next weekend it will be Sister to the rescue time, as I'll be going to stay with my dad for two nights so my brother can concentrate on some special projects he has to get done.  So that will be another nice excuse to get up to Wisconsin for a weekend, hehe!

It really is just a coincidence that we will be up north on days when we can watch Green Bay Packer preseason football on TV.  ;-)  They don't very often broadcast that team down here in Chicagoland, so we've been resorting to internet radio to get our Packer fix.  It will be nice to watch them in action in living color, though.  We are quite keen to see how the new mix of players will affect the team this season.

In addition to helping out DS and watching football, we'll getting involved in yard work and gardening, as the weather allows.  I suspect there are tomatoes just waiting to be picked, and we want to get them before our tomato-eating squirrel has a go.  We will also be doing some shopping up there, in an attempt to avoid the wretched sales tax they have here in Chicago.

And of course, we have to buy us some Wisconsin cheese...

Yes, I'm sure the Packers weren't even a consideration...hehe

Nathan is probably appreciating you a lot right now. That isn't an easy shift to work and all those things that just magically used to happen are suddenly not. LOL!

Oh, dear! Poor DS. When I had a 5am to 1pm shift at Protocol, I got up at 4am and barreled in but I wasn't really awake until 8 or 9, LOL. I was also always tired and had to go to bed at 7 or 8pm.

Have a great weekend is Wis, ((((Lin)))). I'm glad you are liking Chicago. A childhood friend of my I had kind of lost touch with lives there. I did see her about 2 or so years ago after her grandmother died.
