Don't you just love fancy brand new appliances that keep breaking? This is the second time the latch on the dishwasher in our new apartment has gone on the fritz so that it won't allow the door to close and latch, thus the dishwasher won't run. It happened a few months ago and we had it replaced -- the repairman said the latch was actually fine, btw, but replaced it anyway. And now it's doing it again, the exact same problem! Must be problem in the latch itself, so that no matter how many you replace, it will always happen again. Grrrr! Of course, it always does it when I've just loaded up with dirty dishes and put the soap in.
>:-(
We are off to Wisconsin for the weekend, so the fiddling with the machine might have to wait until Monday. My DH has announced that is he going to fix it himself this time, and not bother with a repairman. Maybe it will stay fixed if the DH does it! I'm a firm believer in his abilities as a fix-anything man.
We are busy as bees here in Chicago, but it's great fun, too, so we hardly notice how busy we are. Except, of course, when we get to the end of the day and see we didn't get everything done! We both still have nagging coughs from our bad colds that are long gone, but otherwise we are quite healthy. The DS is not doing so well, though, as he is in the laryngitis and sore throat/bad cough part of the cold we gave him. He's had to shovel snow on top of that, so he's not too happy right now. I think he needs his mom to come up and baby him, don't you? ;-)

Date: 2008-12-13 01:23 am (UTC)From:Aha, I thought of you yesterday when we went to Trader Joe's and bought some Wisconsin extra sharp cheddar.
I'm up and down still from the flu shot. By the time it is over my immune system should be pretty armed against whatever is out there. I can't imagine shoveling snow and not feeling well. Brrr! Our boys love to be mothered.

Date: 2008-12-13 01:33 am (UTC)From:For a while, I was using a letter opener to lever the button back to being loosely open before each load -- until I realized just what was needed: to fiddle with it, kind of pushme-pullyou fashion, until it scoots just a tiny bit to the right. That seems to loosen it so that it properly catches when we push the door shut at the beginning of a load.
Oddly enough, Milady's dishwasher does the same thing, and it's very hard for her to open, as her fingers aren't strong enough to push up on the button to unlatch it at the end of a cycle.
All of that description may not help y'all a bit, but in case your dishwasher is a Maytag, I thought I'd go into a little more detail.
Have a safe trip, and *hugs and chicken soup* to everyone!
