Somehow, I am disappointed that we only got 3 inches of snow here in Chicago -- 4 at the most. I'm wishing I were up with my dad, who got 11 inches, or home with my son, who got 9 inches, with more on the way. Then I would get to shovel snow! And no, I'm not joking, I do enjoy shoveling snow, even if it does get to my back sometimes.
I can be wistful instead of worried about the snow because I don't have to drive anywhere here in Chicago for a day or two! And my DS called in sick last night to McD's, so he didn't have to try to get to work at 5 am in unplowed snow.
In lieu of shoveling, I think I will put on my boots and walk to the grocery store, to see if they have any colored sugar for cookies. One disadvantage in living in Chicago's Little India is that, while you can get all the wonderful curry and Indo-Pak ingredients you can possibly imagine, one has to sometimes travel miles to find the standard "American" stuff. Like colored sugar. I'm hoping Aldi's has something in that line, because I can walk there easily!
I am totally not prepared for Christmas -- at least, not for the cooking and gift-giving part. Somehow I lost a week in there somewhere, and it snuck up on me. However, I have the weekend pretty much free, so I should be able to catch up. We will be spending Christmas Eve with my dad, and my sister and I are doing everything we can to make sure it is our traditional Christmas as usual, even without my mom being there. So that means I can't slack off on the cookie baking or the preparation of the traditional meal items! Somewhere in there I also have to get gifts! I'm thinking I'll spend the day at Target tomorrow, since I have missed the boat on getting anything online that will be delivered on time. ;-)

Other bits of news:
- DH fixed the dishwasher, I knew he could do it! He also figured out why it was doing what it was doing, so now I shouldn't have to worry about it happening again.
- Speaking of DH, he lost his wedding ring in the snow last night, alas! No chance of finding it, either. He searched as much as he could, but now with the new snow fall, it's out of the question. He's disappointed, but doesn't seem to be devastated, which is good. I'm okay with it, too. I guess once you pass 25 years of wearing each other's rings you don't worry about things like that so much maybe?

Date: 2008-12-19 07:27 pm (UTC)From:You do know that regular table sugar and smidge of food color left on waxed paper to dry could save you a trip, right? That is if you have food coloring lying around, of course, lol.
Yay for fixed dishwashers and awwwww for lost rings. I know it's just a symbol and all, but still. I am glad neither of you are too upset since there isn't anything you can do about it, but it's still disappointing.
I hope all your last minute shopping goes well! I didn't set foot in a mall once this year. I always try to avoid them, but I always have to go for just one thing, or for work, or because Lisa drags me, lol. This year I have escaped. mwahahaha! I did all my shopping on Etsy this year. Do you know about etsy.com?
I hope to talk to you this weekend if you have time, if not maybe New Years weekend we can catch up! *hugs!*
