linaewen: (The Cheese of Narsil from boz4pm)
Thanks so much to all who gave me their heartfelt sympathy as a result of my last post.  It was much appreciated!

I called my doctor for some advice, and while I couldn't talk to him, I spoke with his capable and sensible nurse.  She assured me that my shingles are not caused by my medication, but she also set me up with an appointment to see the doctor on Monday -- both to talk about the shingles and to decide how to proceed with the BP medication, since I was experiencing a cough as a side-effect.  I'm thinking now that most of the trouble I was ascribing to the new medication (aside from the cough)  was probably the shingles coming on.  But I'm not going to make any more guesses until I talk to my doctor, and then we'll go from there.

So I'm getting a vacation (for the most part) -- though it's not a very relaxing one.  From what I read about this ailment, it's going to be troubling me for a bit, so I'm going to have to eventually get involved in things again, even if it hurts.  I guess I might try to get back on track next week, but slowly and carefully.

We're going to Wisconsin for the weekend, since that was already in the plans, and it will be good to see some different scenery for a bit!

Maybe some mega-doses of Wisconsin cheese will help cure me.  ;-)

It sounds like the symptoms vary, but my case of the shingles was gone after three weeks and has not troubled me since (three years later). So don't assume worst. :)
But do take it easy--the constant pain is very tiring. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Don't be so sure! Ken went on a medication and gained (I think it was) 80 lbs in 18 months (or something like that) without a major lifestyle change. He told the doctor he thought the meds they gave him caused weight gain and they told him it was nonsense. Two years later there was a report in a medical journal that said the medicine in question caused an average 50 lb weight gain. I swore up and down that Claratin gave me a urinary tract infection since I went on it twice and promptly got the infection and it wouldn't go away until I was off the medicine. I was told I was mistaken, it was a coincidence, but now they are saying it is a possible side effect. You know your body.

Cheese is sure to help.

I am praying for you and very deeply with you in spirit, I hope you can feel my arms around you. I will play my harp for you this week. Perhaps you will hear it in your dreams. And cheese always helps, especially the Wisconsin variety!
