Remember people far away

I just finished writing out a nice addition to my journal and suddenly it disappeared! I must have hit a wrong key or something...

My work today at the office is editing and proofreading a book about the life stories and struggles of certain men and women in Pakistan. It is nice to be reading about a culture I know and places I have seen -- and people that I know. These stories are about people that I have seen, and worked with, and drunk tea with, and visited in their homes. It is a joy to "see" them again, but it is also hard to read about them when they are there and I am here.

I'll see them again, though, of that I am confident. Some day...

On a more mundane note, I am getting my hair cut today. Big deal! you might say. Well it is -- after 15 years of long hair worn pulled back or up because of the heat (and cultural norm) of Pakistan, I am getting it cut to roughly shoulder length. It's time for a change, but I'm still nervous. What if I don't like it? What if it looks stupid? Will it be a dumb style for an almost-50 year old woman?

We'll see! The nice thing is, I have a half-way decent self-image these days, and hair grows back. :-D

Really? I just got my hair cut today. It's a bit longer than shoulder length, which is the way it's been for a long time now. I had it real long when I was smaller, then I cut it very short, now it's getting a bit longer. I mostly needed my bangs cut which were getting way too long.

It should be interesting; my coworker who is going to do it is having ONE OF THOSE DAYS where everything goes wrong! :-D
