I didn't go in to the office today, because I have a board member and his wife coming to stay at the guest house tonight, and that means the house has to be as perfect as it can be -- which isn't very perfect, that's for sure! Old house, yucky carpet, hideous furniture, bad housewife... not a good combo. :-D

Combined with I don't know when they are coming, or if they will need a meal, or if they have dietary restrictions, or if I have to entertain the wife tomorrow while her hubby is in the board meeting. I know the husband, but I have never met the wife. :-/

Fortunately, there were no urgent things requiring my presence at the office today, so I am working hard to get the house in order. My guest house duties actually take precedence over my office duties -- but I'd rather be sitting quietly in the office than hauling the vacuum cleaner up and down four flights of stairs! I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, but I had to sit down for a minute! Whew!

We are supposed to start rennovating this place any day now, beginning with tearing up the carpet. I can hardly wait to do that and have guests at the same time! It will happen, I know. Murphy and his law will have something to say about that. But it will be nice in the long run to have this place fixed up. Did I say I hate this carpet?

Welp, gotta go see what I can do for the kitchen before I mess it up again cooking something. ;-)

That sounds like a lot of work, (((Lin))). Wow. My mom is going to have her carpets torn up and have wood put down. It was supposed to happen before Christmas. I don't know what will happen now with my stepfather's situation.

Hope it all works out for you, darling, and that everything goes smoothly and Murphy and his law stays far away.

I know nothing of ugly carpet. =P When the landlord was here this morning fixing the toilet (again) I asked him whose idea this carpet was, anyway. Not wanting to take responsibility, he pinned it on the builder, his father-in-law. It was supposed to hide dirt. =) I made the comment that a nice, neutral carpet would have sufficed, and that its not too much to expect that the tenants would vacuum. He agreed, and looking around, said "boy, it IS pretty ugly, huh?" Ohhhhh yeaaahhhh. Take a break and have a cup of tea. ((( Lin )))

What color is the carpet?

Our first house had deep purple shag carpet in one of the upstairs bedrooms. The walls and ceiling where also deep purple. LOL! One of the first things I did to that house was paint the walls and ceiling white. We couldn't afford to replace the carpet but having the walls and ceiling painted made the purple carpet not so bad.

That house also had bright, and I mean BRIGHT yellow on the bathroom walls. That got painted too.

Gives new meaning to "Purple Haze..." If you were into LSD, you probably never would have left the room. =) Our carpet is this beige, brown and gold mix - not shag, but close. And it might not be so bad, except that our furniture has NO brown tones, so the clash is...NOT aesthetically pleasing, to say the least. In my house, it's going to be all pretty colors - and all solids!

So, what are you gonna do after you rip up the carpet? Is there hard wood underneath? Are you gonna put down new carpet or finish the floor underneath. Sounds like alot of work, but fun!

There seems to be hardwood underneath. We want to get back to the wood, because this place is actually historical, and the wood in the place is really neat. I also hate carpeting in my own home, because of my asthma -- it catches everything and holds it. We will refinish the hardwood floor, and put down one bit of carpet in the actual living room area -- but not yellowy-browny-orange (or whatever color it used to be before it got throughly stained)!!!

My coworker in the Media Department at the office has worked as interior decorator, so she's in charge of things like this for the office and the guest house. I'm excited about how it will look afterwards -- she's got some really great ideas for what we can do to get the place back to being nice. As long as it fits in the budget...

oooh...sounds like a "This old house" project. Hey! Maybe you should get in touch with them. Do they still do that show? We don't get PBS any more. That would be sweet if they picked up your house as one of their projets! Would be cheaper too, because they always get sponsored supplies.
