I have started to update this thing numerous times today, and couldn't think of anything wonderful to say, except that I am mostly having a day off and that I want to do some inkling scribbling, but the dirty laundry staring me in the face is pretty convicting, so I guess I shall have to obey -- sooner or later. ;-)

A trivial observation = it is an interesting sensation typing on the keyboard after practicing my viola a fair bit this morning. Ouch! I am playing in a mini-group tomorrow for a luncheon we are having to honor a family leaving the office. I haven't played in awhile, but I did okay -- it's something that you don't quite forget, though I was pretty squeaky at times. ;-) But it's hard on the fingers for a bit, until you get used to it again.

I don't really have a verse for today; I could drag out something from the past, I suppose... maybe after I do my laundry. ;-)

Yep, that's how they feel -- bruised. My fingers are so sore I am cringing at the thought of playing again! That's what I get for not keeping up with my practicing.

I started playing violin in 5th grade, then switched to viola in 8th grade, and went from there. I need to keep up with it, I do enjoy it, and I was surprised that I actually sounded decent after all this time. ;-)

What is the difference between a Viola and a Violin?

I know how you feel about having nothing to say. Some days I have nothing to say either and other days, I tend to run off at the fingers (as is where)

I guess it's nice that you don't have anything in particular to say as it means nothing is wrong. ;-)

A viola looks like a violin, but it is slightly larger and heavier, and its tone is a bit more mellow. It has 3 of the same strings as the violin (A,D,G) but the 4th string is a lower note (C), rather than a higher note (E) -- it actually has the same strings as a cello, only an octave higher. The music for the viola is in the Key of C, which is different than for the violin.
