linaewen: (Dreaming of Home)
We sang a hymn in church on Sunday which is old, i believe -- yet it was new to me. I was quite taken with the words and thought they would serve well for my "Verse Thursday" post this week, as a reminder to myself what to do and where to go when I am struggling with pain and sorrow.

:-)

disconsolate adj sad beyond comforting; incapable of being consoled

COME, YE DISCONSOLATE

Come, ye disconsolate, where'er ye languish --
Come to the mercy seat, fervently kneel.
Here bring your wounded hearts, here tell your anguish;
Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal.

Joy of the desolate, light of the straying,
Hope of the penitent, fadeless and pure!
Here speaks the Comforter, tenderly saying,
"Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot cure."

Here see the Bread of Life; see waters flowing
Forth from the throne of God, pure from above.
Come to the feast of love -- come, ever knowing
Earth has no sorrow but heaven can remove.

A wonderful reminder to whom I may turn, again and again and again. There is no time limit, no punch card with only a certain number available, no limited editions, no conditions but to open my heart to His healing power. "Behold, I stand at the door and knock." I only need to open the door. I don't have to open it with a flourish or dressed in my best or even with a clean house; I only have to turn the knob and give even a gentle push so He might enter in. He will help me with everything else.

Thanks for the wonderful thought today. (((Lin))) Now, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. ;-)

Love

Just let me know when you are feeling that way, and I'll see what I can do to help pull you out of it (((my friend)))! ;-)

"Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot cure."

I need to keep this in the foreground of my mind more often. I like the word too...very descriptive.

Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal.

I've always liked that line, but didn't know its origin. Sometimes it's comforting just to know that comfort/healing will come, even if you are disconsolate at the time.

Hoping that none of you needs that sort of comfort at the moment.

Thankfully, no -- except for the kind of comfort needed for sore throats and stuffy heads. ;-)

((Lin)) Bummer! I'm still getting over my cold. Try Vicks vapo-Rub cream at night - it really helps and the cream doesn't leave a sticky mess like the old stuff. I like the original Ricola cough drops for coughs.

Hope you're better soon!
